should jermain taylor be allowed to continue in the super six?

I personally think not. jermain taylor has no chance against andre ward. he just dethroned the tournament favorite in totally convincing fashion. at what point do the higher powers step in and say enough? I personally think taylor was thrown to the wolves the second he signed to take part in this tourny. he has a crippling stamina problem and his punch resistance is close to zero. he's been knocked out brutally in 3 out of his last 5 fights, and twice in his last two. every indicator is pointing toward him retiring as soon as possible. get the winner of bute-andrade 2 in there, sakio bika or allen green. I'm legitimately concerned about taylor's health and everyone else should be as well.

I don't think Taylor's washed up, he's just not that good. He got overrated off all the HBO hype and gift decisions against Hopkins and Wright, but as soon as he started facing top rated rated middleweights and supermiddles who were in their prime, he started getting knocked out.

He's an ordinary contender with poor stamina and a shaky chin. It's not a case of him being washed up, it's what he IS.

thats a good point. the only time he's ever looked amazing was against outmatched opposition, and even then he had problems. he didnt good well against pavlik or hopkins, lacy was shot and an even bigger hypejob, and froch lacks serious technical skill (even though he makes up for it in sheer power and determination). I still do believe he should be forced out of the tournament though, he looked like he could have died after abraham starched him like that.

I like Taylor and I don't think he was a "overrated". However, I do think he is dropping a lot quicker than he used to... I feel like people call for the retirement of boxers too quickly these days, but I tend to agree with this assessment... I think his punch resistance is all but gone, he can still give lots of people troubles with his boxing skills, but I think he is too easily rocked these days to beat the best...

It would be a crime to let Taylor-Ward happen, seeing how Jermain's last two fights have ended. I'm not saying he should hang the gloves, but he should stop fighting at the highest level for a while.

I dont think he should subject himself to any more punishment. his speech is already getting shaky.

Exactly. Taylor is an HBO created mirage - simply never as good as some seem to think. He fought the usual suspects, got those questionable verdicts against Hopkins and Wright, beat a couple of smaller guys, and then as soon as he started facing guys at his weight in their prime, he got beaten. That's the story of his career - hype job, pure and simple.

Spinks boxed the hell out of JT and arguable should have won and been crowned the Undisputed MW champ, which would have been quite a feat for a former undisputed WW champ with absolutely no punch.

Personally I wouldn't like to see him fight again. I Think he has a fair chance at Ward though and could actually win a belt, also another pay check. If Kessler couldn't beat him, I don't think Taylor can. Styles make fights though.

Wish JT all the luck in the world, with whatever happens.

Taylor can punch, he has the ability to hurt anyone. However, if he doesnt stop Ward early he is gonna be in for another serious beat down. The formula is perfected for beating jermain. Make him work early and in the later rds when he tires, beat him up and stop him.

He is his own man though and he needs the money. So he will fight on.
