I don't have a great feel for this fight yet but wondering what others are thinking and feeling about this match-up in the second round of the Super Six tournament. Poll above for your answer. Anyone know where this is being held, by the way?
You don't have a good feel for this fight because you know Dirrell has a chance of winning. Dirrell can run and punch, Abraham expects opponents to come to him, not only that he's wide open to the body when he puts his guard up. Dirrell is a much more intelligent boxer than Taylor and when he sees an opening he will take advantage of it. Dirrell wins this because he will land punches to Abraham's body and Abraham won't be able to counter. If Abraham were to win this fight, he will have to get out of his peek-a-boo defense and be the aggressor, and that's not what he does best.
He came forward against Taylor. Taylor is tougher than Dirrell, I feel confident of that. He's definitely much more of a fighter than is Dirrell, in terms of coming to mix-it-up versus putting on the track shoes. It should be interesting. Dirrell has the tools to win the fight, though I do favor Abraham because of his huge power and explosive bursts. We'll see.
Dirrell's gonna have to be nearly perfect. I think he's capable of it. Having this in the USA will help. Andre UD Arthur.
Dirrell won't have as much success as he did against Froc. Abraham is much quicker and will close the distance and land. I see Abraham pulling out the victory, or at least I hope he does.
Abraham hasn't seemed as busy to me in recent fights as he used to be. Also, he has to make sure he doesn't suffer any of the gassing issues he experienced before the Taylor fight (probably due to cutting weight). Dirrell is tall and fast, and he will stay on the outside. If Abraham can get inside and land some of his shots, he should be in good shape. I do think Abraham should have an easier time than did Froch because Abraham is faster and more explosive. But he'll have to keep up a steady workrate and/or get inside of Dirrell's jab.
Please. You clearly don't appreciate what a sudden leap in opposition that was for Dirrell. He went from showcase fights in clubs to an internationally televised fight against the sitting champ in Froch's own backwater, ****-hole city. If they fought again today, Dirrell would decimate Froch.
The overrated Abraham will finally be exposed when he fights a guy with a long reach who can take (or rather wobble with) a punch. Not that Dirrell is that good, but styles make fights.
Styles make fights, you forget that Abraham's workrate is much lower than Froch and he's only explosive in spurts. Against Taylor there were numerous times Abraham could of been more explosive often, yet he was only explosive in the last minute of the round. That won't be enough against Dirrell who will use height and reach to box from a distance. I have yet to see Abraham try to cut the ring nor do I think he has fast footspeed.
Dirrell has the style to beat Abraham, as he did to Froch, but got robbed. Abraham is more dangerous than Froch though. I can still see Dirrell winning 11 rounds and then getting knocked out in the final stanza.
It's basically the same discussion like before the AA - JT fight. Nobody thought that Abraham would be able to win on the cards. Shortly before the fight most of the people here thought that JT has to be the favorite, because styles make fights and because AA is a former paper titlist who hasn't fought anybody. Now - again - nobody thinks that AA could possibly win a decision against Dirrell. Hell, Dirrell even seems to be the favorite in this one. I'm convinced that Abraham is able to win against Dirrell, no matter if it is by (T)KO or by decision. If I compare JT to Dirrell he seems to be the better man in every aspect of the game except for his footwork. It is said that Dirrell is a very intelligent fighter. I don't believe that. He has his hit and run tactics, but that's it. This is a game plan that won't work against Abraham. Abraham is used to fight taller fighters, he has absolutely no problem with fighting them. Dirrell hasn't the pop in his hands to make Abraham stay away from him. JT has pop, Dirrell has a high volume output, but this won't be enough. Also he can run, but he cannot hide. AA will catch him sooner or later. If Dirrell thought that Froch is a hard puncher than he has no clue what's comming next. AA is a complete different foe. He can use both of his hands to KTFO guys and he can do this even in the last seconds of the 12th round. You've to be a very special fighter to make no mistakes for 12 long rounds. Dirrell isn't that special.
Dirrell has a chance against AA but he shouldn´t be tha favourite. Dirrell´s problem will be to score points. Not just because of Abraham´s defence but also due o the cat that he must get into AA´s range to score points. And when he is there he will get hit. His defence isn´t good enough to avoid it. Dirrell was a bit gunshy against Froch, what do you think he will be against AA? His punch output will drop, most of it landing on AA´s gloves and he will not commit fully to his punches. He may win the early rounds but I expect AA to take over from round 4-5 on and beat him up possibly (t)KOing him between round 8 and 11.
i think that abraham will catch dirrell with one of his first flurrys. 4th round ko for abrahamer you all think abraham will wait all the time and then attack at the end of the fight. it will be the same like the second miranda fight. the first 3 or 4 rounds abraham will wait and check out dirrell, and then the first flurry of abraham will end the fight, and after watching kessler ward, abraham will win big against kessler if they fight. but i'm looking for abraham froch, fight of the year 2010:deal
