It's more the fact you are talking balls than anything personal. You can spin it any which way you want to make a point about Hatton, Calzaghe or anybody else you believed is 'manufactured' but the point is most people can see and recognise that between each weight class the men get noticeably bigger and stronger. They are for the most part well spaced out, they aren't just there for show. The heavyweight point is weak at best, there has always been a cut off point even in the old days when there was no cruiserweight division. The cruiserweight division was brought in so that smaller heavyweights that are too big for light heavy but too small to compete with giant heavies had a place to go. There are VERY few fighters that are 'small' heavies that couldn't make cruiser if they so wished.
Great response i must say, anyhow i think if you read what i say properly then you will understand. I think Froch is a fighter who does it the right way...what we want in a fighter...but that dosent mean i think he a great or what not, as manufactured and inflated a record that Calzaghe has..I believe he would run rings around him. So point proven, in fact you can bring my posts up if he takes on the like of Bradley, Alexander, Holt, Marquez and beats them. Il be happy to be shown that Hatton is that bit better than i think he is. He wont though, certainly not come out the winner.
He probably wouldn't, thats because his punch resistance looks shot. Hatton on the down side of his career losing hardly goes to prove we need to overhaul the entire weight categories.
So your point is you have no point? Fair enough, you basically just wanted to say how **** Hatton is. Hey, I agree, don't hide behind weight divisions as justification
No he probably wouldn't, those are all very good fighters, but whats that got to do with those ridiculous 'new' weight divisions you keep banging on about?:huh I'm pretty realistic about Hattons place in the grand scheme of things, I read about and watch a lot of old fights. He's not a great champ, not an ATG or anywhere close for that matter but to try and make a case for scrapping the light welterweight division altogether and wanting 9st-11st fighters to fight guys who outweigh them by 15lbs order to "discredit" him further is laughable.
Did anyone read Colin Harts article today in The Sun? He was talking about his 40 years covering boxing for the paper and named his top 15 Brits from the last 40 years and Hatton wasn`t on his list neither was he mentioned in the double spread. Is Colin Hart right? I am not Hattons greatest fan but I thought that was a little harsh when names like Joe Bugner are in his top 15.
Of the past 40 years it would be harsh to not include him in the 15. And everyone knows my opinion on Hatton. But I can't think of 15 better.
He is not a top 20 at all in his division nor any division, by that standard he is not an all time great just a good fighter for a short period of time.
Well this thread took on a life of its own while I was away. Thanks for the responses. To the person who mentioned the Pederson fight that was in fact a last minute replacement for Kelson Pinto. I agree Hatton should have fought Witter but I cant criticize him for fighting better opposition for more money that doesnt make sense. I give Hatton lots of credit for beating Castillo and Malignaggi, someone said they'd have rather seen Hatton-Witter than those two fights but not for me. Castillo might have been getting older but he had in fact won his three previous fights including the rematch with Corrales, it was good win and won in impressive fashion I find it odd Hatton gets little credit for that win especially since the Mexican fans were claiming Castillo would destroy Hatton pre-fight.
Hahahaha id never want Hatton to fight guys 2 stone heavier......what im saying is that there should be less weight divisions.....5 pounds is a laughable difference. If you had fewer divisions, you seperated the real fighters from the hyped. Do we really need every 4 or 5 pounds to make a new division i think not. What about the poor fighter who weighs in at 185 and cant make 175? or is to small for 200?
The number of flyweights who used to get battered at bamtamweight and the number of bantamweights that used to get battered at featherweight would suggest that theres a place/need for the inbetween divisions spaced 4lbs apart. TBH I'm bit tired of this, the divisions are what that are, they've been that way for well over 50 years in most cases and are likely to stay that way for the forseeable future. So you feel free to keep banging on with your ridiculous "solution" to a problem that doesn't exist and trying to use it as an ineffective stick to knock down fighters you don't like (which, lets be honest, is usually when you bring the issue up). By the way, I saw in another thread how impressed you said you'd be if Manny Pac could win titles from light flyweight to light middleweight......more than a tad hypocritical.
Mayorga did, this had shade's of LaMotta/Fox stamped all over it & GBP have always looked after mayorga since:hey he'll get some more GBP paydays for playing his part & it was shane that was not playing his just checkout the last 30 seconds of the last round again, it's a joke, Mayorga just looked at shane as if to say, come on yer mug, don't **** it up for yerself again & even had to drop his hands & stick his chin up:bbb
