Mickey Ward. Three big fights now they're making a movie about him. Great guy, good work ethic, but he's the Rudy of boxing. He didn't have a speck of athletic ability.

    LOL.

What I mean by that is that Hopkins is not exceptionally fast, exceptionally powerful, or exceptionnally iron chinned (although he does have very good handspeed, very good power, and a very good chin).

But what he does have in leaps and bounds is intelligence, focus and dedication. I think that he used those "talents" which are not really boxing talents but actually life talents to hone his boxing craft to a level that allows him to be superior to the others.

Hands down, Tommy "Hurricane" Jackson. An alien from planet Nutcake who beat quality fighters. He was ADD on Red Bull.

the thing is, its very difficult to have a successful career w/ no talent. you have to have some talent. most boxers have flaws, or shortcomings, or attributes that god just didnt bless them with. those who have it all are the atg's. there are those fighters, however, who made the absolute most of what they were given, even if what they were given is less than other fighters.

Great example. Clinton does nothing particularly well, but he's a tough customer with good boxing fundamentals, and that's carried him extremely far!

If we're mentioning him, we should really mention Glen Johnson too!

that's what i figured. you gotta take what your good at and do it better than the other guy and let the chips fall where they may. not to many guys have zero holes in their game.

Librado Andrade. Great qualities in his ability to take a punch, incredible stamina, incredible heart and incredible pain threshhold, but really lacking in talent. Cristobal Cruz is another one who's similar.

I'd disagree if I may. Andrade is a very good pressure fighter and pressure fighters are vastly underrated (just as much as flashy fighters are overrated).

I see a lot of pressure fighters appearing in this thead, but we shouldn't underrate them. It's a skill too, just not as spectacular.
