Darn I was about to use that one, but I kinda agree that Paul Williams has won many fights simple because of his freakish height and reach (many heavyweights have shorter reach than he does). He makes you wonder if Boxing should have height classes rather than weight classes.

This is a myth. Williams actually uses his height quite poorly. I've seen about 12 or 13 of his fights, and there wasn't one of them I thought he won because he was tall. There were a few I thought he won because of his ridiculous stamina though (including the Margarito fight), where the other guy probably landed the more effective punches, but his sheer output overwhelmed his opponent for a majority of the rounds.

There are some really bad examples being given here. Seriously, makes me question if any of you actually watch boxing.

You won't have success in boxing unless you have some sort of talent.

Its really difficult to be successful in boxing with no real talent. There are way too many intangables which makes a good fighter. Im very reluctant to name a fighter who had a successful boxing career, with no real talent. Unless the term 'successful' is specified with clarity.

Im still reeling from this shockingly bad post. Further evidence that regardless of the amount you post, some people just don't get boxing.

I suppose. I don't think of the ability to pressure as a "talent" though. It's a skill learned through training. And I don't think of chin or stamina as talent either. Chin is more like an attribute, and stamina mostly has to do with how effective your training is. Hard work does not equal talent.

Speed, power, quickness, agility, reflexes - those things are talent. In my opinion anyway.

I mean, Andrade was 1-13 as an amateur. If he had natural "talent", there's no way he would have been anywhere near that bad. He's learned how to be good, and has a style that takes the most advantage of what he has, but I wouldn't call what he has "talent".

Butter bean would have to be the best example. He has the highest money earned to skill ratio out there. He is one of the only examples of pure marketing at work and had actual boxing sanctioned fights (many of which were rigged)

You cant say Gatti or Vargas. They had tons of talent early on, the only thing about them you could say is they continued to get big fights based on popularity when their performances started to get worse and worse.
