I dont know the history of asian boxing to say the least. But, it seems asia and more specifically the phillipines is in a golden age of lightweight boxing. It is not easy to follow it from the states as we only see the big names, Pac, Donaire, concepcion, penalosa, Mayol on and on.

It is my experience that Mexico and PR dominated the lighter weights historically. There was even a thread about mexico becoming less dominant.

Are we seeing the future here now in the present?

Nah dude. The Philippines has always been there. If I recall fighters like Pancho Villa, Flash Elorde, Cefrino Garcia, where before Manny. It seems like the Philpines is the new kid in town though. I hope the rivalry flourishes between P.R., Mex, and the Philipines. I love the way their fighters fight and the styles of each countries boxer facing each other makes for a very entertaining fight. Can't wait for Cuba, columbia to get in the mix.

One man can't carry a country, just because 1 amazing boxer comes out of the Philipines doesn't mean Filipino's breed them now xD

    Sonsona - youngest New champ
    Nietes - champ
    Donaire #for# - champ
Penalosa - I think he beats Montiel or anyone in his proper weight class
    Nietes - champ
    Pacquiao - #for# number 1 ATG
    Mayol - New champ
    Villoria - champ

Bernabe Concepcion - Really good potential. Hits like a ton of bricks
    Jason Pagara - Potential
    Ferenas - Potential

Last I checked that is more than 1

They've been producing champs long before this one. Unfortunately, this is not a sport commonly played by the upperclass.

But, it seems like we are seeing a lot of good Flip boxers though right now. It is not just pac. These guys are really coming on. If you asked me to name 5 Flip fighters 10 years ago i dont think i could. Now, it is not a problem.

The Philippines has a long history of boxers and it's own share of greats, but it hasn't had the spotlight in a very long time, which is what Pacquiao brings. Hopefully, the fighters we have now do well under the spotlight...

Yeah but he was too big for the weight. Still a damn good fighter with every tool needed to be a champ. I watched his fight against Lopez and I was impressed for someone his age and experience.

After Mannys gone you wont hear none of this nonsense. Phillipines will go back to producing Good but not great fighters like Penalosa,Espinosa etc. While Mexico will continue to Produce the Chavezs,Finitos, Barreras,Morales,Marquez etc etc all time greats on a regular basis. Mexico produces HOF fighters on a regular basis and will continue to do so. Phillipines only does so every 40 years!
