In an article in the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet camp Kessler admits that their preperations and tactics for the Ward fight were wrong. Spokesman Simon Lundt Hansen will not go into details and feels that a full review of the fight is in order before issuing any changes. He does however stress that changes are vital. As the result of the fight spoke for itself. It was furthermore disclosed that it was Kessler who excluded Jimmy Montoya from his corner in the Ward fight. Kessler felt that it was sufficient with Micky Jespersen, Ricard Olsen, Thomas Macon and an American cutman in his corner. http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/anden_sport/boksning/article1259277.ece I think that it is most disturbing that Kessler cannot see his main problem is Richard Olsen and his inability to give advice on the fly. Also this implies that Kessler does not feel the need to split from Richard Olsen. If this is the case then Kessler is in trouble and will always loose to a slickster like Ward. I thought he had learnt his lessons from the Calzaghe fight. Well apparantly not...
Yup damn straight he is. He's been with Richard since the amateurs. I don't know Kessler personally, but I've been working out in the same fitness gym as him for 7 years. He's a very nice guy and as you say probably too damn loyal for his own good. He should get an American trainer. Preferably one the top guys. He has the dough to do this. Sauerland want to have a meeting with Kessler about his future and I hope they demand that he changes his trainer.
I think American trainer is to later, kessler has his style and is a very good fighter, but not a great fighter like a prime RJJ,mayweather, calzaghe. he is a level below and WARD has the ability to have a Calzaghe or RJJ type of career.
I don't think it is to late. I believe that you can learn new tricks as long as your willing to. However Kessler has to face the fact that he is missing some aspects in his game. Why are you talking about Ward in this thread? A bit off topic no?
Kessler need someone that can put together a decent strategy and someone who has the ability to give him good advices between rounds. My choice would be Naseem Richardson.
look at fighters Kessler has lost to,I have seen maybe 15 fights of kessler, he has only had trouble with 3 fighters, Calzaghe,Ward and Mundine, there all very fast fighters. with mundine kessler had trouble but was just able to mantain pressure and make Mundine go into his shell and his offence out put was to little. but with Ward and calzaghe there speed destroyed kessler.
