Pavlik Abraham should of happened without doubt !!!!! , when Arthur moved and Taylor did the same the MW division looked bleak very bleak .

Pavlik has been unlucky with injuries and has no viable opponents @160 , hence Williams a former WW world champion moving up from 154 !!!!!

In summary i agree , but i dont beleive its Kelly's fault , injuries , Bob Arum and shitty opponents @160 are to blame .

To me the disappointement is due to the fact that his ascend to the title was so exciting. Back to back knockouts of Miranda and Taylor, the likeable blue collar guy, humble, hard working....Pavlik was a great story.

Now it seems that for all his blue collar work ethic, Pavlik can't deal well with defeat and grow from a setback. This was evident right after the Hopkis fight, when Pavlik said Hopkins' craftiness wasn't the problem and Loew believed it was all about Kelly not doubling up on the jab. Pavlik's statements about the super six, the erratic behavious of his management and conflicting reports about his personal life, all this is disappointing. When a fighter is more talked about to discuss whether he is blatantly ducking someone or has alchohol problems rather than about his actual fights, his career is on the wrong track.

Well, it's true that Loew turned Pavlik into a champion, the question is if he is the right trainer to imrpove him from here. Past accomplishments don't save a trainer's job in other sports, why should this be different in boxing? A more experienced trainer at the world level might help Pavlik to learn some stuff he never needed as long as he could overpower/outwork opponents.

i agree with most of what boo is saying but loew needs help. he is terrible during fights. trainer yes, maybe he's quite bad as a cornerman and he offers nothing constructive. basically, he wants pavlik to be robotic as that advice has worked in the past. he has nothing approaching a plan b

I have never liked Pavlik you can go through my post history.

I find him very boring and predictable. Hopkins showed that he was very beatable (I hate the word "exposed") and seeing Taylor poor showing in his last couple of fights we have to wonder how big his victory was.

He will never get the respect from me because he should have fought abraham after the Lockett fight when he was on top of the world instead of getting greedy and fighting Bhop.

Pavlik needs to sort himself out get in the gym and fight a live opponent. Really disappointed he pulled out of the williams fight and am dubious of his reasons for pulling out.

I like Pavlik, but I do wish that he would face better competition other than B-hop, Miranda, and Taylor. Punisher is fighting a dangerous opponent in Martinez, I wish that Pavlik would do the same. There's always next year.

HBO wouldn't play with the mandatories. I think Hopkins was the only one they'd pay for. So Arum offered to do it off TV, but Kelly wanted bigger pay days (reasonably enough) and so they went for the hopkins fight.

Let's be honest though - the way Leow and Kelly spoke about Hopkins in the lead-up they obviously thought they were going in to knock Bernard out early. There's no excuse for turning up to fight with bronchial problems.

i agree w/ this and that is why jack pulled the plug on the williams fight the 2nd time. he didnt want kelly fighting bernard that night but kelly wanted to go forward anyways. jack has since said that if kelly aint 100% = no fight. but i'll be clear on this, i don't think anyone was beating bernard that night.

i was trying to point out to the poster who was saying kelly never puts the title on the line that there wasnt anyone at mw that hbo was willing to pony up money for. you are 100% right. when hbo won't put the money up and its up to the bobfather to put together a top rank ppv card...this is what happens.

Who are you trying to blame for Pavlik's financial demands being too high here?

Not sure what Pavlik and his people are playing at. I'd like to know what is going on behind the scenes, because Pavlik seems to be running scared of any real challenges and his championship level career is in a major rut.

I'm no Pavlik fan, and I think the handling of his injuries and comments he made regarding the Super Six were very disappointing. But I hate the whole "he's DUCKING X fighter" attitude from many on ESB, and the whole desire to discredit someone for things out of his control.

Like most fans, the fact Kelly didn't fight Abraham was a let down, but as Steve Bunce often says: big fights only happen when they make cash common sense. Basically, you make enough money to over-ride the risk of losing the fight.

I think Kelly needs to reassess his priorities now he's lost a year of his career nearly, and look at what he needs to do to get better as a fighter. He shouldn't fire Jack Leow, but he needs someone to come in and work on the strategy with Team Pavlik and provide better advice in the corners.

People are always quick to bash Kelly. Before the Hopkins fight, they talked about Paul Williams, and everyone started bashing Kelly for taking the fight back then. Now he's being bashed for not getting it done already. I say lets judge how he looks against Espino. Recent interviews make it sound like he still can't clench his hand. If the injury from the staph infection is true, then he shouldn't be bashed about not fighting Paul Williams yet. Outside of Williams, there's next to no credible opponents for Pavlik to prove himself against at middleweight.

While I see him as #1 at 160, I see him barely being in the top 10 at 168.

look at who is at mw right now and you tell me? hbo lowballed the **** out of a pav/sturm fight already and sturm is a beltholder. your reaching here and you know it. he fights a can at mw BUT puts the belt on the line like the poster wants, he catches ****...alternatively, he goes up two weight classes and fights an atg w/o the belt on the line and the same poster gives him ****. that was my point.

what was hbo's offer for pav sturm??? like 2.5?? sturm wouldnt even go for that b/c he makes his cut for that fight or more fighting part time telemarketers in germany. why would he want to fight pav and lose for that amount? and that is a unification fight. so honestly tell me how much hbo would put up for a non-unification fight w/ pav and some cab driving mandatory?

edit to note that that is a rhetorical question. hbo won't put up anything. so what's he supposed to do?
