Did anyone in history punch harder than David Tua ?

............ apart from Bob Fitzsimmons.

Do you mean in a p4p sense? If so, I'd say that there were at least a few who hit harder on p4p basis.

But Tua's power is fearsome no doubt, although a good few of his victims didn't always have what I'd call first rate resilience. The thing with Tua is that he carries his power late into fights and is very hard to hurt himself into the bargain.

 

Fitz wasn't that big a puncher, the solar plexus shot was a decent body shot though.

George Foreman is the first that comes to mind. Despite his chin, Tua would be a perfect opponent for Grorge. Short and aggressive, he wouldn't last three rounds.

 

Fitz scored 60 kos in 67 wins he twice stopped Tom Sharkey with single punches,something Jeffries could not do .
I think you will find Fitz was a terrific puncher ,something attested to by Jack Johnson,Jim Jeffries ,Tom Sharkey,and Joe Choynsky.

 

And Joe Gans wasn't much of a boxer.

After Langford Fitz may have been the hardest pound for pound puncher that ever lived. He was a murderous puncher.

Tua's left hook is absolutely in the highest echelon of all time power.

 

Absolutely true on all accounts.

 

Fitz was a huge puncher however I feel Choynski was a bigger hitter. Johnson, Jeffries and Corbett all said so. Also Foreman, Shavers and maybe Baer hit harder then Tua although Max's technique was worse.

 

Johnson fought an old Fitz so I'd discount anything he said. I never hear of the quote from Jeffries. Corbett hated Fitz's guts ... Joe C. was a lethal puncher as well..

Yes he did and refused to take credit for "beating that grand old man",
but he was also ringside for three of Fitz's major battles ,so perhaps he was entitled to give an opinion?
