With another six pages torn from the calendar, it is time again to reassess the progress boxers of the Emerald Isle have been making. Over the last six months Irish boxing has certainly been subjected to the high highs and low lows that our beloved pugilistic arts can deliver. We gained two new European champions in Matthew Macklin and Paul McCloskey but lost the world title belonging to Bernard Dunne and, more significantly, there was the tragic passing of Darren Sutherland.

I would have Macklin ahead of McCloskey, but other than that I pretty much agree with the list :good

Magee aint fought in a year so will keep dropping until he does. Thankfully he has a big one coming up and if he wins that then he will be in the top 5 probably.

O'Donnell is the fastest riser this year - 12 months ago he wasnt even on the list and now he is top ten. He is already up 6 in this installment, if he keeps going the way he is then I have no doubt he will be higher.

nope, notice - no Frankie Gavin, no Tyson Fury, no Jamie Moore.

Only boxers that were either born in Ireland or boxers that were born elsewhere but they consider themselves primarily Irish. Which boxer have you an Irish with being on the list?

surely you have to qualify that statement by pointing out the ones you don't agree with being included? otherwise it seems like your simply trolling a thread for attention. also you its remotely, not remotley

Yes. A drop down to cruiser and he could be British and commonwealth champion by the end of the year and Rogan is probably not going be around long.

yeah haha, cos in football, athletics, rugby union, basketball, cricket england never ever takes on people that aren't english! at least the ones included have strong family and cultural links to ireland and aren't just mercenaries masquerading as something else!

Ignore them - bitter Brits! no wonder they are "loved" around the world!!

To be fair they started it all with KS Ranjitsinhji! I am still struggling to figure out how John Barnes (football), Greg Rusedski (tennis), Kevin Pietersen (cricket), Ted Bami (boxing), Graeme Hick (cricket), Matt Stevens (rugby union), Andrew Caddick (cricket), Graeme LeSaux (football), Terry Butcher (football), Matt LeTissier (football), Matt Banahan (rugby union), Brian Stein (football), John Salako (football), Tony Dorigo (football) Luther Blissett (football), Rob Jones (football), Gordon Hodgson (football), Joe Baker (football). Steve Lambert (football) Colin Viljoen (football), Dylan Hartley (rugby union), Peter Nicol (squash), Cyrille Regis (football), Allan Lamb (cricket), Germaine Mason (athletics), Tony Greig (cricket), Zola Budd (athletics), Robin Smith (cricket), Lee Dickson (rugby union), Tim Ambrose (cricket), Pat Barnard (rugby union), Jonathan Trott (cricket), Matt Prior (cricket), Lesley Vainikolo (rugby league and union), Alexander Obolensky (rugby union), Owen Hargreaves (football), Clinton McKenzie (boxing), Takaloo (boxing), Riki Flutey (boxing), Mike Catt (rugby union), Henry Paul (rugby union), Luol Deng (basketball), Olga Butkevich (olympic wrestling) and Linford Christie (athletics) all qualify for them.

"English cricketers" Ed Joyce and Eoin Morgan!

And good old Lenaxe! Never threw a punch in England before he won the Olympics for Canada all of a sudden becomes Britains world champion!

Anyway - typical of these guys to threadjack instead of discussing the topic at hand!

jesus christ this isnt going to descend into one of those boring boring arguments is it?

lets try to get back onto topic. slapbang why have you put andy murray ahead of magee (challenging mads larsen for euro i think) and john o'donnell? he seems very average to me
