I'm not one of those guys. I'm a Pac fan, and I pick him against almost anyone below 140 except JCC and maybe prime early Tszyu. That includes Duran and Armstrong. So don't tell me I sell Pac short.
It all depends on how his punches take an effect. Julio wasn't a concussive puncher, but in the Rosario fight, every shot was hurting his opponent. I can only imagine how much Edwin was aching by the end of the fight, and that's key here. Manny is a wonderfully conditioned athlete, but if he keeps hitting the body and arms with his punches, that being Chavez, they are going to take an effect after 5-6 rounds...realistically. I don't think too many people will dispute that the early rounds will belong to Manny, but after he gets hit, presumably, by constant barrages of 3-4 punch combinations to body and head, will he still have the conditioning to move out of range? I think he becomes more stationary, and Chavez starts to take over. Chavez didn't score knockouts by rendering the opposition unconscious a lot of the times...it's just the opponents couldn't take anymore punishment...they become broken. I see the fight going the distance.
You measure up both fighters strengths and weaknesses, and that is how one comes up with a conclusion...Babality. Chavez needs to close the distance, and Pacquiao will want distance. That is generic. But then you consider that Manny has never fought an entire fight on the backfoot in his life, and one has to assume this fight could probably be a firefight. I think Chavez is a better inside fighter, and has the physical tools to impose himself. If you believe Manny has the capacity to keep Chavez on the outside for 12 rounds, and that he will, then...you'll disagree with me. That's fine. But Chavez was not defensively inept, and his hand speed is often understated.
Disagree. JCC had one shot power when he hit to the chin, but he wasn't a headhunter, and in most of his fights you saw guys getting ground down to powder over several rounds because that's what JCC preferred. A body attack and constant pressure came more natural to him than headhunting. When he DID go to the head early, like he did with Haugen and a few others, every time they took a shot they look like they just stuck their finger in a lightsocket. Shocked, hurt and ready to get on thier bike and ride away. Manny would NEVER be able to let a hard shot go unanswered. He can't, it's not in his nature, he fights fire with fire. I think he would use a lot of in and out right up to the point JCC catches him with something that hurts, then he would wade it with all guns blazing and it would be a war to the end. If it DOES go the distance, Manny by decision. I think chances are pretty slim it goes the distance.
Dude, The fact remains PAC loses 99/100 fantasy fights! ps. btw, we know who are the REAL pac fans ok?! :hey
A concussive puncher is a Tito Trinidad...a Carlos Zarate. You're correct, Julio was not a headhunter...he had power, but not to many times did we see him hit world class opposition and have them out with one shot. Haugen was a sacrificial lamb, and if Chavez wanted too, could have stopped him in the opening round. One of my favorite displays by any fighter, incidentally. Overriding point being, Chavez isn't going to stop Manny Pacquiao with a single head shot...he'll have to break him down over the course of 7-8 rounds...like I said. You disagree?
The only true Pac fan is PacDbest. He had no doubt Pac would crush Hatton, Oscar, Morales etc when he first turned pro:rofl:rofl That shits still funny
I don't think Chavez is defensively inept and Pac is no defensive wizard anyway. They'll both land. Manny's in and out movement coupled with his handspeed will imo, allow him to get the better of the exchanges. Pac's chin is sturdy enough and Chavez would have to wear him down and I don't see him stopping Pac either. Close decision for Pac.
Nope. Just wanted to make the point that if JCC wasn't such a dedicated bodypuncher, you would have seen a LOT more early KO's. He wouldn't one shot Manny though.
:good I'm glad he wasn't a head hunter...watching Chavez rattle of combination's is the most aesthetically pleasing thing about this to sport to me. Beautiful to watch. To coin a Muhammad Ali phrase, Chavez was the astronaut of Mexican Boxing...Barrera and Morales were just jet pilots.
Do you think Manny will continue his in and out movement after he gets caught, or do you think he will go insane, run in and brawl? I've never seen him take a shot without going crazy on the other guy in return.
pacman looks great recently must be said but people smoking crack if they think he would ko prime chavez. nonsense
:deal Right on this is my whole reason for Picking Chavez, earlier i stated Manny would win many exchanges put would take a lot of punishment himself. I agree there is no way Manny does that in and out stuff all night. He would eventually fight toe to toe with Chavez and thats where he would pay dearly. Pac cant turn down a slugfest. I also stated that If manny somehow lasts the distance he might win a decision over 12 rounds. If this fight was 15 I would bet the Ranch on Julio!
Only in the DLH fight (cause DLH didn't land anything ) Honestly this is a fight I can't predict, I respect Chavez and as you mentioned, he's a dedicated body puncher and sometimes neglects the head and that could actually be an advantage against Pac.
