This guy seems to have been forgotten, overlooked and sadly underrated. Fought in a bustling era, met and beat some of the greatest fighters of the era, Walcott, Griffo, Burge, Erne... Up until the 1940's he was still in the argument as to who was the greatest lightweight ever. Now, I rarely hear him mentioned. Thoughts?
Definitely a forgetten great. Lavigne's misfortune was to come allong just before a quantum leap in the level of documentation of fights took place. This means that his career was largley undocumented while those of fighters who came just after like Joe Walcott were documented in full. This content is protected

1979 Ring Mag article Duran vs all time greats, Cus Damato mentions this guy right off the bat favoring him over Duran.
this thread is good i have never really known much about Lavigne but im finding stuff out great stuff
One of the greatest fighters of his era. Perhaps somewhat overlooked at times, as are his peers Jack McAuliffe and Young Griffo, two of the greatest of all-times.
Barbados Joe Walcott ripped his ear clear of the side of his head and he still went on to win the fight.
He would but he was in discussions about who was the greatest lightweight as late as the 1930s and 40s.
