If Jeffries was 227 lbs in fighting condition then he would hardly look out of shape compared to the man in the street at 260lbs. Jeffries reputedly walked the street at 250lbs between fights anyway. Here is some footage of Jeffries at the Burn O'Brien title fight. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQFoxxAeywg&feature=related[/ame] Now however you try to argue it, that is the condition he was in when he signed the contract to take the Johnson fight. Of course he was never going to regain his previous form.
I don't think Jeffries looks 300lbs in the footage of him refereeing the Burns v O Brien bout ,but he does look appreciably bigger in the photos of him reffing the Burns Squires fight, and could conceivably be near the 300lbs mark, I suppose.
There is footage of Jeffries sparring with Bob Armstrong and another unidentified negro. One of Jeffries fights/exhibitions in the UK, is supposed to have been filmed too.
I have not peeked at the footage on youtube yet.. although I've had the footage of Jeffries, Ryan, Burns, Corbett, McCoy, Leonard, Battalino, etc. talking away about careers etc for a long time.. Who are the so-called owners?? **** them if its a concern for them being released.
Dont forget Walcott lol. Also I belive Tony Canzi was in that chat segments, talking about his recent win over Chocolate. The McCoy footage was taking after he was release from prison(For killing his ex) and shortly before he killed himself. He was talking about planing to be a up standed citzen ete, but we all know were that went.
I've never had the Walcott film... did see it a long time ago though, Yep, Canzoneri is in the mix.. Lesnevich I think also.. Plenty of interesting stuff around. Although Tunney vs Greb IV.. bloody bores me to tears... lol
This is fascinating. Jeffries has a very clear and pleasant sounding speaking voice in this video. No signs of damage from all of the punishment he absorbed.
