Basically I think its who you like between Ward and Froch, the other choices make no sense because Froch has done the most and Ward has the best win. But really it makes no odds. The whole point of this tournament is to find the #1, it's going to change after every fight.
Froch - Beaten Pascal, Taylor and Dirrel without loss Ward - Beaten the guy who every would have had as No.1 in the division but has done little else apart from Miranda Kessler - Andrade, Mundine and Beyer all decent wins, but two losses hurt him now Bute - Two wins via Andrade but nothing else really apart from Bika Abraham - 1 Super middle win against a Jermain Taylor who is finished really. Nothing else at Super Middle Dirrrell - Done nothing really. Yes it could have gone the other way against Froch - BUT IT DIDN'T - You could probably have a case for Bika being at six instead of Dirrell
I'd say Ward or Bute. Ward has that oustanding win over Kessler and that is maybe enough to merit a place at top the rankings (in my book). I hear what TFFP is saying about Bute but one thing he has is consistency at the weight against decent operators. The only blip he's had is the first Andrade fight and he ammended that clinically this weekend.
Consistency yeah, but trust me Bute is gonna catch **** like Kessler did if he suddenly loses when he steps into top competition. That's why these knee jerk reactions are bad for the sport, fighters go from hero to zero overnight. If we keep what Bute has done in perspective he can only prove himself further and climb up the rankings, and if he loses big deal...I'm just saying you are giving Bute a long ass way to fall based on beating B graders.
Ok, but Bute has got to be top 3, surely? People are putting him at 5 and 6 which is too harsh IMO. I'd have: 1.Ward 2.Bute 3.Froch 4.Abraham 5.Kessler
I'm gonna wait for at least the second round before formulating rankings, too many unknowns at the moment. Can Ward continue...we're basing this on pretty much a single win. Is Froch going to be outboxed again or was Dirrell a blip? Can Abraham prove himself against somebody other than the man considered weakest coming into the tournament... Imagine if Kessler KO's Froch, he'd probably go from ranked #1 or 2 to about 6 and Kessler would go from 5 or 6 to 1 or 2 It's madness really, thats why this tournament is great.
For not fighting the best? That does tend to work, its like the best England footballers/cricketers are always the ones not in the team
