Nice thread there does seem to be some great talent coming through at the moment. Another name that hasn't been mentioned is Martin Lindsay ranked in the top 10 by the IBF and he holds some decent wins on his record, also think Gary Sykes looks decent it's a shame that Ryan Barrett backed out of their fight because that would have been a decent test for the kid. I'm looking forward to Don Broadhurst-Lee Haskins a good win for Don would be his coming out party and a sign that he is a genuine prospect.
Me too - although it might take a Khan Prescott type experience for us to see the very best of him?? I think he will get a bit of a test on Saturday so it will be interesting to see how he does...
hes got a good trainer to guide where khan didnt. met him on the khan prescott undercard before he went pro and he was proper down to earth and polite. didnt have that sort of, not arrogance but.. whats the word. duno but was different to what hes like in interviews and that
I'm sure he's a nice guy...I don't have any logic for it really I just think he might be one of those guys who's such a natural that he finds it easy in the ring, and might well get caught being casual one day - dunno just a hunch really...
DeGale and Groves are the two stand-outs for me. There is so much talent coming through that I feel there will be a bunch of world champions in the short term. Gavin, Billy Joe Saunders, Bellew are improving all the time. I don't rate Cleverly any higher than Euro level - I cannot see him winning a world title. Liam Walsh really impresses me - I think he could grow into an outstanding boxer. I think if Sam Sexton can improve his defence - he can definitely go on to get a world title shot, as he is an outstanding boxer. There are several others that I have left out - simply because I have not seen them - but have heard great things about them....
The three prospects who have impressed me the most are Jeffries, Gavin and Saunders in that order aswell. Although I thought Joe Murray did well last week aswell. I had never seen that Bellew either till I saw his last fight on TV but he seemed to have good power and could go far.
Tony Jeffries is abit underrated as a prospect just now mainly because he hasn't had the same exposure as Degale, Gavin or Saunders, but he is a brilliant prospect. Power in both hands (watch some the clips of him on youtube to see for yourself) and a brilliant boxer, hence his quality amateur background. Think out of all the Olympians, Jeffries, Gavin and Saunders are the most likley to fight for world titles. Other than that, Kell Brook, Don Broadhurst and Kevin Mitchell (if you can still call him a prospect) can all go on to world level IMO.
Of all the prospects James DeGale is the one I really watch out for, I don't mind the way he acts on TV, most of the time he comes off as nervous to me and isn't sure exactly where the line is between self promotion and arrogance. In the ring though I've never seen anyone like him, really love watching the way he fights even though he has only fought below par fighters so far. Billy Joe/Kell Brook and Matthew Hatton are my other three favourites that I like to follow.* *One of them I'm lying about
Missed out my favourite, George Groves. I agree, we'll have a least a couple of world champs out of the current crop I reckon.
Cleverly and Brook if they still count. I really like Groves, DeGale and especially Frankie Gavin! There are others that have been mentioned above but the ones I just mentioned are the ones I personally like the best though.
Darren Corbett sparred with Sexton in preparation of both fights and he told me that Sexton has a good chin. I agree Rogie hurt Sexton in both fights - but Rogie is as strong as a bull and if he catches any heavyweight on the money he will do damage - hence that is why I said if Sexton can improve his defence - he could go on from here. As I said, it is Sexton's boxing skills that impress me, and he has very quick hands.
