...Not when it's a shot Roy Jones, who's chin is clearly Grade AAA china.:nono That's gotta be one of the more ridiculous lines I've ever heard from a boxing commentator!
That's reasonable. Of course, boxing history is riddled with fighters who destroyed a washed up legend (i.e. Marciano KOing Louis) and then went on to greatness. But is that really what we're talking about here? Green is no spring chicken, and doesn't seem to have the time, or the ability, it seems - to be a true "legend" in the sport. This seems more like Jess Willard's victory over a washed up Jack Johnson, where the victor will go on to continued mediocrity. In any event, the comment was absurd. It does not follow that if you beat a legend, you AUTOMATICALLY become a legend.
Kid Thunder beat Charlie, did he become a legend. No:!: You just can't beat the likes of RJJ and Charlie Zeleneoff and become legends over night.:yep:good
The Aussies were just excited at the time. He probably is the best boxer to go there, let's hope this gets more Aussies into boxing and produce some greats. Good luck.
I'll let them slide, It was their biggest fight since Fenech/Nelson II. (& we all know how that one ended) Let them bask, Congrat's
Sure, I understand that. I'm not trashing the guy - we all say over the top things sometimes lol. But I just thought it merited some examination. It is not a "truism" - i.e. it doesn't follow that simply because you beat a "legend" you become one yourself. Like the ElPerro said, you might......but you also might not. I think Green's odds of becoming a legend are pretty minuscule!
when you beat a legend... you either become an atg or end up being on kirkland laing/zahir raheem/buster douglas route
Exactly. And I think Green is far more likely to end up like Laing or Douglas than, say, Rocky Marciano!
What he really should've said was, "When you beat a legend, you get a place in history." The fighters you mentioned aren't legends, but they are still remembered for beating one.
