err no....it's pretty simple....look down Calslappy's career, and even knowing Jones was shot, it's still one of his best wins. THAT'S how shite his record is. And now that win looks even worse...hot on the heels of the Kessler farce.
shot Eubank, shot Brewer, shot Jones, overrated fraud Lacy, ancient Hopkins (and most thought Hopkins won that) and eurorobot Kessler.
Those are the best wins of the supposed legend Calzaghe :lol:

I disagree about Hatton but I cant argue with this. Calzaghe hardly took a risk in his entire career, it was mapped out nicely.

I doubt it makes a difference because everybody fully acknowledges Jones was shot to ****. Unless you were actually giving him credit for that victory nothing changes.

I think Calzaghe ruined him. Look what he did to Lacy, Kessler, Brewer, Reid, Eubank, Woodhall, Ashira and Manfredo ... none of them ever won a major fight again. Ruined.

I won't lie. Lacy has been destroyed a couple of times now. Kessler shown he can be outboxed at the highest level. Jones appears to be a shot fighter. It's literally resting on a controversial win on X. The haters must LOVE this.

Still, like Holmes, it's not just who you beat, it is when you beat them and how you beat them.

If only Calzaghe hadn't let the superstar status go to his head. He would have been the one to expose Pavlik not X, he would've been the one to spark Taylor not Froch and to be honest he would be the one to take away Dawson belts and his 0.

Calzaghe made a whole divison look mediocre for a whole decade in his prime.

As soon as Calzaghe retires it is revealed as the most stacked division in boxing.

    Calzaghe was simply that good.

Calzaghe has to come back if he wants to be considered one of the absolute top British fighters. Despite being a hundred times less talented than Joe, I still think Hatton has a more impressive record, if only because he was always eager to fight the best - regardless of what Junior Witter will try to have you believe. Haye is a fight or two away from overhauling him and if Froch somehow won the Super 6, well, he'd be a mile ahead.

The division is stronger now. The fighters Joe routinely defended against were by and large pretty average - I'll never denigrate his talent and Lacy & Kessler remain strong wins due to the time at which they occured, but he whiled away so many years playing it safe that he only has himself to blame for not being in with a shout of being considered a worldwide great.

He had the talent, maybe he still does, but he will always, always frustrate me because he could have been more.

At least Hatton has that performance v Kostya Tszyu under his belt.

    That was sheer magnificence.

The closest Calzaghe comes to that is v Kessler, when like usual, he looked dodgy at times and poised to be KOed.

Also, Hatton took on his big opponents in their mid thirties, when they could at least fight back, where as that kind of age range seemed an unnecessary and dangerous gamble to Calzaghe.

Maybe, as Achilles alludes to, it highlights the fact that Calzaghe should have tried to force a fight with Dawson, Pavlik or Taylor, instead of chasing the $green$ by taking on Jones.

Of course thats easy for me to say; money talks and legacy walks. Gotta admit though, it doesn't look great for Calzaghe when Danny Green KO's a guy in 1 round, when Joe had to get off his ass and settle for a 12 round decision against selfsame guy.
