It's probably because he simply did n't get round to it. There was no reason for Louis to fear Maxie Rosenbloom.

    "Slapsie" Maxie vs Joe Louis?

Bob "Packy" Hope, the comedian, would have a better chance.

Joe by KO in 30 seconds

From what I've heard it's because Louis was not fond of Rosenbloom's spoiling tactics.

Louis thought that any fighter who wouldn't go toe to toe with him wasn't quite playing cricket.

Rosenbloom was on the downside of his career when Louis won the title..and actually, I read where Louis' people avoided a match with Maxie because they thought that he would make Louis look bad, or even beat him.

That's it...and Maxie would NOT have fit nicely in the Bum of the Month Club.

I've never heard them express anything other than confidence that they could/would beat Maxie, but Louis admitted that Maxie would probably turn it into a shitstinker of a fight.

Besides, Maxie was generally rated below the likes of Schmeling, Farr, Mann, Galento, and Pastor, so they all (rightfully) got shots instead. What obligation was Louis under to fight Maxie?

Lennox Lewis probably passed up a fight with Chris Byrd for the same reasons.
