I'll be the first to admit Jones is way past his best but people really do need to give Green a little credit. It seems no one gave him a chance before the fight yet no one gives him any credit afterwards.

Hopkins is a long way past his best too.
But not totally washed-up like Jones is.
Hopkins is a bit like Archie Moore was at 44, past his best but not totally washed-up.
RJJ has been this way since about 2004/'05.

Hopkins probably has at least 15 million good reasons to fight RJJ.

....and one of those will be revenge.

Green is clearly a bigger puncher than you think. Unfortunately his skills do not match. As an Aussie who has followed Green's career, last night's result was definitely on the cards: RJJ gets KTFO with one punch by Tarver and Johnson, RJJ beats a few shells with no lethal weapons wearing pirate clothes to get a few PPVs, RJJ moves up in weight and obviously underestimates Green whose only real shot was a KO and the rest is history.

Styles do make fights and I still think Hopkins RJJ can be reasonably competitive; no I am not a sadistic ******* who wants to see RJJ killed. Hopkins doesn't have Green's power, fights an ugly fight, and he is not exactly a spring chicken. Hopkins likes to counter but if RJJ doesn't play his game there is a stalemate. Hopkins will rush like a bull with his head aimed at Jones' chin, RJJ will move, they will cuddle and start again. It is very likely Hopkins will get this decision in a real stinker of a fight.

I would not watch this crap, but my point is that it wouldn't be the one-sided beat-down everyone believes.

Forgot to mention, RJJ has only really taken 3 big punches his whole career, so he isn't shop-worn from that perspective, it's just that his reflexes are obviously nowhere near what they used to be.

    Some points...

The earning power of this match has surely gone down the shitter. I mean 122 seconds.

I really don't think Hopkins would be that (revenge) worried about something that happened 15 odd years ago. Anyone with any semblance of a boxing brain would know Hopkins was nothing to what he would later become (and whether this sways ones personal opinion of the match is a moot point, Jones did not beat Hopkins anywhere remotely near his greatest)

Beating Jones wouldn't be much revenge anyway because the joe public and boxing history will acknowledge it as a nothing bout. Both are miles past their best but one has genuine old school genius and a chin.

Tho boxers may not think about it there's also the chance Hopkins does the mad ***** (for still fighting) some harm.

The proposed Hopkins-Jones fight was meaningless before this happened to RJJ.
Now it's meaningless and not even interesting.

    Thanks very much.
Jones with his right hand down to his knee, no longer has the reflexes to make up for his lack of fundamentals ,and his punch resistance is diminished ,the shot looked to just graze him ,yet he went down heavily, time for him to go.

    Agreed.

Defensively, you just can't dangle your hand at your kneecap w/o dire consequences. If that boxing radar is off just a tiny bit, it's going to take terrific whiskers to absorb clean shots over that low hand.

Stop doing it to yourself. Danny Green gets practically no credit for knocking out a shot to pieces Light Heavyweight. Don't care if he's from your homeland or not.

He didnt really get hit with his hands down, nor did he in subsequent fights where he was KO'd. Where Roy is clearly having trouble now is when he gets into a corner and tries to earmuff with his gloves to block punches. The shots are doing a lot of damage now. He had his hands up but the punch landed behind his gloves as he was leaning forward.
He shouldnt be in those situations at all anymore if wants to continue fighting. Keep the fight in the center of the ring or tie up to avoid getting stranded on the ropes.

Jones losing to Green was probably the equivalent of Sanders losing to Machimana. Certainly a good win for the other guy, but not something that the loser should be rated on in a career sense.

Royale "With Cheese" Jones is washed-up.......... Here in 2009 at age 40, he is shot to hell............. His legs are Spaghetti and his chin is China......

I am STOKED for Daniel Green from down under............ I know very little about this bloke, but, after he kicked some ass on that vato from Argentina back in the summer, I said Green is kool and good for boxing business........ GO GREEN!

But, Green and Jones can do a rematch if they want to; I'm kool with it......... BUT! Green had BEST get the upper end of the cabbage head the next time around........ Jones is is NO position to demand jack**** right now........
