well it looks like the great warrior will hang his gloves up after just two more fights against either castillo or a possible move up in weight to 154 to fight yuri foreman(that sounds like a MSG fight b4 the parade)...he gave us a great run and i truly believe that his career wouldve flourished more if he wasnt beaten in the face with bricks for 11 rounds...his face has since become a human bulleyes for fighters who tear up that scar tissue that was left after the marg fight....the world awaits the next great puerto rican welter(dont count kermit cintron)
Hmm.. 2 more and then he's done, hey? Am i to take that just as seriously as Tito's retirement in 2002? Hopkins' retirement in 2006? Mayweather's in 2007? How about when Jones said "if i don't get Tyson, i'm done" after his first fight with Tarver in 2003?
Cotto did say that he was financially set adn so were his kids and that once he retired he wasn't coming back..... take it for what it's worth.
Good decision on his part. He's definetely past it and has taken beatings recently. Too bad he neer fullfilled his star quality.
It'd be a shame to lose him, but if thats what he wants you'd have to respect him for what he's done so far. I'd like to see him stay in the mix around that weight though.
selfishly would still love to see a cotto/margo II fight. would also like to see him mix it up w/ collazo at msg or something like that
he should fight a B level fighter before the pr parade and then fight in puerto rico as a going away fight... or do it the other way aruodn
Hopefully he'll stick by the decision. There isn't a classier guy in boxing so I hope he goes out with dignity and enjoys his long retirement.
