On Hopkins wanting wanting to fight Haye, Calzaghe said; "I don't think it's a good idea for him to fight David Haye," "I think Hopkins should retire because he is 44 and he is going to end up getting hurt. "If he fights a big guy like Haye, who is too fast and too strong, he will end up getting knocked out way too quickly and that would be a shame to see as he (Hopkins) is a legend of the sport. It is time to call it a day."
This is the only thing I would agree with Calzaghe on. Like I have been saying it's too risky to move up to heavyweight at age 45. If this was 6-10 years ago hell yeah and I think he would would beat Haye.
It's smoke and mirrors anyway. No way will Hopkins go up to Heavyweight. He says he would like to fight guys all the time. Froch, Adamek. Dawson is the only realistic option.
Haye doesn't strike me as being that physically strong, he doesn't tend to physically engage. He also tends to struggle with shorter guys who don't give him space and leverage for him to work from his favored range. This as well as a relatively modest workrate due to his questionable stamina, which has been Hopkins biggest wekness in recent years due to his age, makes the fight interesting.
Kessler is down, RJJ is down, now if Hopkins goes down where does his self-image as the best leave him. "Please retire looking good so I can look good"
Who the **** cares what that clown has to say. His most impressive victory is against a man who recently got exposed as a typical Euro bum. **** him and his old man:good
There is absolutely no point in time that it would've been a good idea for Hopkins to go after David Haye. Of course he's more skilled. But one guy's a middleweight who maxes out at light heavy and the other guy's a full blown heavyweight whose two best assets are the ones that translate the worst for a smaller man moving up. I'm sure there'd be some points where Hopkins made Haye look stupid; but I don't think that would stop him from getting knocked out in the end anyways.
maybe that's what he's thinking, but i think calzaghe speaks the truth here at least about a possible hopkins/haye fight. there's no point to that fight and how will hopkins be able to sell the notion of him beating a big CW/HW? I don't think hops should necessarily retire but just fight Dawson already if your gonna go on. Win or lose it would be great for his legacy (assuming he doesn't get shutout or something).
only reason calzaghe makes such ridiculous remarks regarding the ridiculous and overrated Haye is because of his nationalistic pride. Haye sucks, Hopkins UD. fight won't happen.
Hopkins already ahead of calzaghe in the rankings Now Hopkins is trying to match RJJ and if he beats Haye, he goes past RJJ IMO
