It is a fact that Mayweather OFFERD Arum 10mil guranteed to fight Cotto. Why would Arum only offer 7mil. There is no way to defend that. He offerd less for Cotto then Margarito yet Cotto was the bigger star.

Its not like that fight had to be done right away. They could have let it build a little bit so that the build up could have worked for Mayweather to make 10mil.

Knowing that Arum is the one that turned down the deal. Then stating that Mayweather priced himself out. Yet Mayweather was able to fight Hatton and JMM for like 15-20mil. So he obviously didn't price himself out. As Mayweather tried to state to RA that Arum wanted to put Cotto and Margarito together after the Mosley fight since they both were under his stable he would freeze Mayweather out and collect more money.

Mayweather's options with big money fights weren't that good at the time so he retired hoping someone would blow up as a star and when he comes out of retiremen there would be a huge demand for him since Arum would have allowed his fighters to fight each other already and he would be able to keep freezing Mayweather out.

How the hell is it "ducking" Paul Williams when Williams brings NOTHING to the table for a PPV event? Seriously?

I like Williams a lot. The dude just has ZERO casual fan base. You cannot fault ANY WW for not taking a fight of that risk for the small amount PW brings to the table.

I don't give a **** who would draw the most pay per views, I want to see the best guys fight each other. And whether or not you believe that people would tune in to see Paul fight any of these guys is irrelevant. He is arguably one of the top guys in the division, and a stylistic nightmare for each of them, and yet none of those top guys will even consider fighting him.

And this ain't no Mayweather-hate post, because I think Shane is worse than all of them, because he has the nerve to interrupt another grown man's press conference, at the same time, he's blatantly ducking somebody else. (Waiting for all the excuses about how he's fought tough guys in the past.)

    By the way...

I want to officially welcome the TS to ESB. This site is a breeding ground for needless Floyd hate, and it does get old. Even for a guy like me who does't really root for him, I want to see him do well to shut some of these clowns up.

I can feel you on that, but these men do this for a living. Would you go to work tomorrow if they lowered your pay by 80%? They don't call it prize fighting for nothing.

If we want "the best versus the best" then we all need to get behind a boxing league and quit buying these PPV fights. Until then we have to understand why fights like PW/FMJ are not happening and not call it ducking.

Mosely went from hero to zero for me. He been ducking all along now he is all froggy? Right.

Boxing is a business just like football, just like basketball, just like baseball. While I agree at the end of the day whats most important is for the two fighters to fight, to act as if "MONEY" isn't the overriding factor in whether or not they do is just plain naivety. Here's the point tho all this talk about Paul Williams being an opponent for Floyd is just Revisionist History, Paul Williams had no real buzz until after his Victory over Margarito, on July 14, 2007. Mayweather fought Ricky Hatton on December 12, 2007, Mayweather retired in the mean time what happened, Margarito refuses a 4 million dollar rematch with Williams, insteads fights Cotto for 2.3 million, Cotto fights Shane Mosley and wins, Shane Mosley fights Margarito and Wins, So you can say effectly Mosley,Cotto,Margarito ducked and froze Williams out...So Basically Floyds angle to get another super fight is ruined by the fact that everyone is beating each other up, ( Funny how they wouldn't fight each other while Floyd was still active neway) But wait in this time something else happened as well Pacman emerges to starch, Hatton, Diaz lol, Hoya, and the media labels him the greatest thing since slice bread, where is Paul Williams in all this conversation, an also ran at best. Pac makes the most sense for Mayweather because he produces the most buzz, if it was Mosley he would fight Mosley, IF it was Cotto hed fight cotto, and so on Mayweather like all fighters are Prize Fighters keyword PRIZE, nobody is ducking Paul Williams because quite frankly Paul Williams aint nobody to duck, let him get his name up, and I guarantee you see him and Mayweather down the road.:bbb

IVLG. You pretty muich destroyed all of the Mayweather haters. Bladerunner didnt have a single, solitary thing to say in response. Other haters like Farmboxer didn't even have the courage to post on the thread becasue they have been completely exposed.

I've been lurking a little while, but get put off posting as even threads that are based on logic and reason usually end up in pointless arguments and outlandish statements from people who take sides and aren't prepared to listen to each other.

But this thread is absolutely brilliant.

I've only been into boxing a little while, the first fight I ever watched was Calzaghe vs Kessler, and it took me a while before I started following it properly. I genuinely didn't know that much about the history with Mayweather and Bob Arum, and now I know why Mayweather has been 'ducking', I now have a lot more respect for PBF as a boxer.

However, I must say that this is the biggest problem with boxing: money/marketability is far too important and stops us from seeing the fights we want to see. It feels like no fighter really wants to go down as a legend anymore but would rather pay their bills, pad their record and get out of the sport. MMA fighters like Anderson Silva can retire in the knowledge that they took on all comers, loved their sport and money came second to all that. I remember somebody the other day saying that Ortiz and Griffin were losers for accepting $250k each for their headline fight at UFC106. But again, these guys will retire in the knowledge that they are legends of the sport they love.

If only we could see more of this in boxing we might've got to see Cotto, Margarito etc. fight Mayweather, but unfortunately money, marketability and in this case, a ***** of a promoter has stopped this.

Absolutely awesome thread, it's opened my eyes a little and I can respect PBF in the ring a lot more than I used to.

There's always going to be haters though. Every fighter has their haters: Froch, Haye, Ward, Pacquaio, Mayweather to name a few. But it's awesome that there's some people who can back up their arguments with logical points and references.
