This isn't going to go down to well, but I just scored the fight round by round and I had Duran winning the fight quite clearly. I felt he landed the much cleaner shots throughout the whole fight, making Barkley miss and then countering with sharp right hands. His head movement was exceptional. I was really moved by what I was seeing to tell you the truth. A guy in his late 30's fighting up at Middleweight, fighting a guy who looks like a full blown Light Heavyweight, and he was dominating him in patches - in my eyes.

    round 1: 10-9 Duran
    round 2: 10-9 Barkley
    Round 3: 10-9 Duran
    Round 4: 10-9 Barkley
    Round 5: 10-9 Duran
    Round 6: 10-9 Barkley
    Round 7: 10-9 Barkley
    Round 8: 10-9 Barkley
    Round 9: 10-9 Duran
    Round 0: 10-9 Duran
    Round 11: 10-8 Duran
    Round 12: 10-9 Duran

However you saw some rounds, you don't have to be a historian to know that Duran was doing something incredible that night. I've never been a fan of his, always called him out on making excuses, but his performance left me speechless. When he dodged like 3-4 punches of Barkley and then just stared at him, I was like, This guy is on a different planet.

I outline points with some .gifs from the fight in this thread here from awhile back.

I had Duran by a point, winning 9 10 11 12, with a 2 point round in the 11th. The kd made the difference on my card.

Barkely's body work was wicked the first half of the fight and bagged him more then a few rounds before Duran got that "third wind" of his.

Maybe it was the youtube quality of the fight, but I scored it as being very close.

Most do mate, but I have the fight in good quality on my Mac. I watch it a lot, it's a beautiful exhibition in my view. Duran won the fight handily on my card, he was making Barkley miss an awful lot, and was landing the majority of time he threw a punch. He hurt Barkley twice during the whole fight, even scoring a knockdown late on.

Mhm, that perfectly timed straight right hand had Barkely stunned more then twice.

Barkely's most impressive work was to the body though, and I give bodywork every bit as much credit as shots to the head. I also usually score a round to a fighter if they seriously stunned the other guy in there, and Barkely spun Duran's entire body around in one round from a shot which stunned Duran.

I was impressed with how well Duran took it than the shot itself. Barkley supposed to be one of the hardest hitters at 160lbs at the time, lands a flush left hook on the chin of Duran...and Roberto spun from the impact, but he didn't even seem hurt to me.

Barkley's best work was to the body because he couldn't hit Duran on the chin clean enough. He decided to go downstairs and tire the old man out for the later rounds, and not even that worked. I had Barkley up by two rounds going into the 9th, and after that, I thought Duran swept the fight.

I think Duran had a chin much like Gene Fullmer. The only way to knock a fighter like Duran or Fullmer out was with speed, precision. Laser guided shots that couldn't get any faster or have any more speed behind them.

To make a comparison between their two only real valid knockout losses is Hearn's and the "perfect" hook from Robinson.

I don't think it'd be possible to club either one into submission if either was anywhere near their prime, you just didn't get either guy out of there with "dirty" clubbing power.

The KD of Iran was the difference maker in a slugfest either man could've taken.

Definitely considered debatable without being anything like a robbery. Great fight with quite a few rounds that could have gone either way.

Roberto's great finish bagged it for me but I wont argue with someone who has it for Iran aswell by a whisker. It was a fight about Duran's greatness IMO and whether you scored it for him or not you cant argue this fight enhanced it.
