Never happen. Does tell a story that though, can you imagine Khan trying to fight through a cut like that? How about Victor Ortiz?! That picture, in many ways, summarises the difference between a great prospect and a great fighter. As an aside, it was perhaps the most disgraceful night in the history of British boxing, all things considered. Haven't seen that fight, never will.
Yeah, it was a bad night for me, especially being there live, no wonder i didnt go into Manchester afterwards, well for 1 or 2. The cut was as bad when it happened as to when they stopped it! Frank Warren the **** comes to mind. Agree on all your other points. :good
For some weird reason, I always confuse this fight with the Salud beating that had Steward shitting himself in the build-up to the Hamed fight.
On a side note Addie, I really enjoyed his fight with Orlando Fernandez as well, think evangelista cotto was in Orlando's corner as well. Marco was fighting one mean rough housing fighter, nice perfromance I thought. Professional was the word that came to mind watching it, as well as ice cold.. I also remember cringing when i first watched the paul Lloyd and Wenton fights. The gulf in class was as wide as the atlantic, brutal while they lasted.
Great display of in-fighting from Marco in that fight. Fernandez had a little bit of success with pinning Marco to the ropes and roughhousing, like you said, but he would throw the same three combination. Left hook to body, come back up stairs with the same shot, and then went back down to the body. He landed those on Orlando quite often, and got himself a stoppage. Good learning experience.
Another one, not great, But I was pretty Pissed, and the lighting didnt help! He actually looks like a beast in this one!
Barrera was in pretty good shape for the fight, but he was a lot slower than he used to be, and that cut that opened up was horrendous. Horrendous.
This was prime, vintage Barrera, very patient, accurate & deadly once he had Sanchez hurt. One of his better performances alongside Salud, Ayala, Hamed & EM 1 & 3.
