David Tua vs Bruce Seldon set for February 7th in Atlantic City

I prefer to think of them as "brilliantly huge".

 

I can't believe Seldon bothered to "come back" for what he has done. He is in tremendous shape for his age, but what is all the work for? so he can take a few modest payments to lay down for guys like Johnson and now Tua. Surely there's a less embarrassing and less painful way to make some cash (i.e., a job). How long can he keep getting paying fights when he collapses like he did against Johnson and shouldn't he fight a few bums to build up a record? I think he's got a criminal record so maybe he thinks this is all he could do.

 

Maybe it's what he loves? It's well known that athletes are equipped with great powers of self-delusion as a defense mechanism. He could very well be an intelligent guy and have his wits about him, yet still harbor HW title aspirations.

Tua's fighting 3 times in 85 days. It's not inconceivable that when the dust clears he'd be looking for a guy like Arreola in the spring/summer to keep his active streak going and raise the incline towards a title shot. That's if Cristo has the balls. :deal

 

I'll buy the "get out of the tv contract" thing. Obviously, he needs to free himself up for the bigger fights.

It's going to take a while, though. 3 fights in a few months is necessary because any champ will avoid him like the plague - Tua will need a couple of big-name fights to force a title shot. It doesn't sound to me like he has a serious chance at a shot until late 2011.

And making comparisons to Arreola or Johnson getting shots on lousy resumes... well, there's just no comparison. Arreola was good risk/reward (HBO $$) and Johnson is just an easy defense. Tua will have to force the issue big time. He'll even have a problem finding legit contenders to fight him. His best hope may be a Klit seeing him as a good legacy fight and caring about that enough to take the risk.

 

i think tua should take the WBA route, hell if ruiz can get an unlimited amount of chances at fighting for the title, then im sure tua could squeeze one in. he has a better chance with haye than he does with either klitschko.

 

A series of brutal highlight reel KO's of Seldon, Ahunanya, and say...Fields? - followed by a win over Arreola in the summer...you don't think he could land in line for a title by late 2010? :think

 

....and a lot of his ability to take a shot.

Ruined his mobility and his punching variety though.

Unbelieveable. At least Tua is gonna fight a couple of times in 2010. I sure hope it ain't Holyfield next after Seldon.
