Paul Williams is the Most Unimpressive Impressive Fighter...

I don't know how else to explain it. He's so non-technical and fundamentally flawed. He just lunges in throwing a million punches from all angles with some slaps and good shots. He needs someone to ressurect Archie Moore or something to teach him some fundamentals. His corner was advising him to go to the body more. A lanky 6'2 82 reach fighter doesn't need to do body work. Yes, Williams is a warrior that fights in a way that shouldn't be suited for his body. And it does work, but he's so awkward, unorthodox, and sloppy.

When he doubled up the jab he had major success. He needs to double up the jab and use that jab more. He should try mixing his going forward style with going backwards. Honestly, any great technical strong puncher should be able to seriously punish Williams. He doesn't block, nor does he hardly slip and move his head. Although, he did at the end of the fight which is a major credit to him.

By the way, I scored the fight a draw. I like Williams, he has a very crowd pleasing style and he seems like an awesome guy. So I've been a fan of his recently, although not too experienced with his works. The guy is unimpressively impressive. He just needs to get a bit more disciplined and tighten his game up a tad more. Throwing a lot of punches from all angles is great too, but with more structure it would be phenomenal. Man oh man though, what a chin the guy has. Especially since he has no leg power and not the greatest balance. His calves are about the size of toothpicks!

 

His lack of power and tendency to substitute multiple punches rather than actually sitting down on punches does and can hurt him at times. That is true. His chin, heart, fortitude - combined with his freaking physical tools and output are amazing. Though, he does so many things wrong and a few good things. His awesome qualities help hid otherwise mistakes or deficiencies. Call it was you will I guess. He's great though.

Sometimes, it's just crazy seeing him throw a jab from like 10 feet away. What is he doing? His accuracy, also seems to be a bit off at times. Maybe due to his weak balance and constant throwing punches from everywhere. Did anyone see him on occasion throw an uppercut from like a foot away or something. What was he doing or even thinking? Sometimes his misses can almost be humorous.

 

Yes, but great fighters aren't really there to be hit. Think of the elites, even at 147. Does he beat Pac, Mosley, or Floyd? I don't think so. But again, I like him and I agree that style plays into it somewhat. But the guy, technically is just atrocious. You don't have to neccessarily be slick to counteract that.
