He is a New Jersey judge. There are many Americans who have Euro names, oriental names, Hispanic, etc.
119-110 is ****ing stupid. I'm glad Max called him out. When I heard MD I felt was like "Ok, cool so one has it a draw and the two scores are close." "114-114" I thought great score can't argue. "115-113 Williams" great score, I had it the same way, can't argue. "119-110" OH WTF! Disgraceful, I agree with a post earlier, a judge needs to get a serious beat down. May'be that will teach some judges a lesson. 119-110 how the **** can you come up with that? This is why I would love to see open scores. It does take away the drama, but at least the fighters, as well as everybody, would know WTF the score is.
A public spanking would be fine as well. Something. The guy is probably spending his "extra" money right now on some nice food not really caring about the fighters or the sport in general right now. I'm down, we'll get them in the parking lot next time lol.
I went through Boxrec and checked out his scoring history. I couldn't really find any other decisions that were in wild disagreement with the other judges. There was one split decision 4-rounder between two unknown fighters that was a pretty lop-sided split decision, but I checked back as far as 1996 and that was about it. I'm not sure what the hell the deal was with this fight. Maybe Martinez was right and it genuinely was an 'error' of some sort, and hopefully we hear a corrected result in the next day or so. If not, I hope Benoist never works another professional fight again. Even if I gave Williams every single close round I couldn't justify a 119-110 score. That would mean Williams won every single round outside of the first, which you pretty much have to give Martinez based on the more convincing knockdown - impossible and wholly unjustifiable. Unless Benoist scored that one even, which would make a 119-110 score possible, and then you'd have Martinez winning only 1 round out of the remaining 11.
