Anyone else sick of fights being scored for workrate?

Yes, but don't even try to convince Slappy Joe fans that workrate doesn't always win a fight.

 

Yes -- Masterflow -- I agree. I'm also tired of bogus compubox numbers, and tired of guys getting tons of credit for punches that do not connect.

 

Agreed 100%. They're supposed to place a strong emphasis on clean punching, and more often than not they seem to favor aggression even if it's totally ineffective.

 

if its effective then i'm in favor, like if the other guy keeps running and just covers while taking million slaps...even if he lands 2-3 flush shots, he doesnt deserve the round.

 

Calzaghe didn't just get rounds for throwing, he threw so many shots that he shut down his opponents offence, and he generally landed as well.

I don't score for work-rate alone. I score on the four criteria - and work-rate is not one of them.

 

Completely agree. Boxers get rewarded for hitting air a lot of the time:-(

 

Ineffective aggression seems to be the most important criteria for winning a round in some fights these days.

I guess the networks have told the judges to appeal to the right demographic for maximum ratings.

there are so many rounds where 1 fighter hardly throws a punch , while the other fighter presses but cannot get through the defensive shell , but does let his hands go.

in these rounds the fighter who is agrresive and letting his hands go, should get the round and the round should not be scored even.

agression is a scoring part of boxing and should get the nod in rounds where few punches were landed.

if the defensive fighter is landing clean potshots inbetween the innefective work or the pressure fighter then he takes the round .

if the hypothetical fighter also misses with his few potshots in this round then the the round on my scorecard goes to the agrressor throwing 2 or 3 punches to 1 even if not much is getting through.

otherwise if we only score fights on clean punchs every round we could have fights with 6 plus rounds scored even in lots of fights we watch as there are many many rounds where not much clean work is ever landed in fight after fight.

There's too much to score for based on what the judge prefers, boxing is far too complicated for all judges to see things the way they're supposed to, can't tunnel vision scoring a boxing match. There's speed, aggression, movement, defense, counter punching, work rate, overall activity and far too much stuff to score for, it's not a piece of cake especially when you have a competitive fight with two awkward and crafty opponents.

 

Please...IF somebody is simply "Slapping" then there opponent should be able to walk THROUGH THE SLAPS, and knock the **** out of the other guy. It's rediculous.

BHop vs Calzaghe. Calzaghe literally did SLAP the **** out of him. What did Bernard do? Hold, complain to the ref, throw one shot at a time. If somebody isn't hurting you, and your a legend of a boxer you'd think you'd be smart enough to simply go right after them, and knock them out!
So...Yeah, in that sense workrate does matter. You got one guy aggressive, doing 90% of the work, throwing double the punches, landing more punches than his opponent did, and the other one running around the damn ring like a little girl.
