....., but NEVER took the sport SERIOUSLY (Poor training habits, couldn't make weight, always out of shape, conflicts with their camp...etc)

For me...EMMANUEL AUGUSTUS HAS THE MOST TALENT OF ANY BOXER OF THE PAST GENERATION.

That is a STRONG statement...But I am STICKING WITH IT!!!

He can make ANYONE miss, He can hurt you with either hand, You can teach a clinic by simply watching his Left-Right Body2Head Combos...And he did it all while ACTING A DAMN FOOL.

Sometimes I wonder about the possibilities of Augustus if he'd ever took the sport seriously.

Also...Zab Judah's lack of discipline is just God Awful!!!

Others: Mayorga, Shannon Briggs, James Toney

Yeah Augustus is the perfect example I guess. Judah, Toney have had success earlier in their careers but Augustus is a big "what if"

Also Mads Larsen. He beat sven ottke and got ROBBED in germany for the wba and ibf titles. he was 44-1 and in his prime. Then his promoter completly ****ed him, and through some bull**** he wasnt allowed to fight for 4 years. ****ing scummy promoters :-(

Hmm... Mayorga... when I first saw that I thought "nah, never elite", but with a good trainer, yeah, you just never know.

In this HW division, the Sam Peter of Toney II could have been top-5 for years if he wanted to. He let that win go to his head (and stomach).

The fact that he has a rotten chin didn't help either.

A few more names to throw in the hat:

    Mike Bounty Hunter
    Panchito Bojado
    Travis Simms
    Joan Guzman

zab judah. while i respect the thread starter's interesting pick of the drunken master, i have to say judah is the single most naturally gifted fighter of the post jones era. and now he's a journeyman. at 32...**** it's hard being a super zab fan.

Augustus is one of the most naturally gifted fighters of the last years (not THE most tho), yes, but poorly managed and lacked champ/winner mentality.

Mayorga is an overachiever. After all he's a two division champ/beltholder.

Zab Judah is an underachiever, but he was considered an elite fighter some years ago.

Shannon Briggs was a contender/beltholder, he always was limited, I don't think he could've done any better.

Toney is an underachiever, but whenever he decided to take the sport serious he actually was an elite fighter. Sure HOFer, ATG, three division champ, an elite fighter in other words.
