Julio Cesar Chavez was the first to come to mind. One's definition of all-time great must be EXTREMELY generous for the G-Man to be considered. How about Jack Dempsey & Sonny Liston?
Zarate is not an ATG. To call his competition taxicab drivers is an insult to taxicab drivers. Neither is Chang: weak resume with a stand out win over Zapata who was a good boxer but nothing more. Same goes for Lopez limited competition with a gift draw in Mexico against Rosendo Alvarez and a questionable SD win that left his face a bloody mess. Lopez is borderline ATG at best. Mike McCallum is a good call.
The DLH fight was a toss up, it was the margins more than the actual winner that was so wrong. Im a fan of both Chavez & Whitaker, I dont let incompetent/corrupt fat ****s make my mind up, Whitaker beat Chavez who is 1000% an ATG fighter.
In my top 130 or so fighters: Jimmy Wilde Julio Cesar Chavez Vicente Saldivar Miguel Canto Ruben Olivares George Dixon (at least officially) Victor Galindez Manuel Ortiz Carlos Zarate Jack Non Pareil Dempsey Panama Al Brown Pascual Perez Jung Koo Chang (Ricardo Lopez is not in my top 130)
Does Howard Winstone not creep in at the lower end of the 130? I know hes outside my top 100 anyway but he might be top 130 for me.
Excellent fighter, but no he doesn't. Plenty of other really good fighters are outside my top 130 too though, so he's in good company: e.g. here's some in the last 50 or so years that don't make my 130: Shane Mosley Sumbu Kalambay Eddie Perkins Kostya Tszyu Ricardo Lopez Hiroyuki Ebihara Horacio Accavallo Santos Laciar Johnny Famechon Lionel Rose Salvatore Burruni Jose Medel Chucho Castillo Rafael Herrera Yuri Arbachakov Jose Becerra Sugar Ramos John Conteh Antonio Gomez Myung Woo Yuh Yoko Gushiken Betulio Gonzalez Lupe Pintor Winky Wright No shame in being amongst that crop. I haven't actually even put Marco Antonio Barrera or Erik Morales in my top 130 either. They probably will squeeze in there, but I've put off ranking them for now. Don't think either will be in the top 100 for me though.
No I dont have Lopez either. In fact out of your list I only have Barrera and Morales top 100, I found room for them. Like you said though, not bad company for a runners-up list.
I've currently got it in this annoying excel doc format so I can't readily put it up here. But I'll find a way to do it and put it up soon. :good
I remember you posted something a while back sweet. ww.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117211&highlight=list&page=4 Dont know if its changed much since then.
It actually has changed quite a bit mate. That list posted there was one largely going off my intuition as to which fighter was better (no real criteria that I applied across the board). I've calculated everything according to a criteria in my new list. Which may not guarantee that it's better, but it might be more consistent. I'll post it in a little while.
