Winning away from home in sport is difficult, boxing is no different. Joe Calzaghe fought 28 fights away from home and only 18 at home. {2 USA, 1 Germany, 1 Denmark, 1 Scotland, 23 England} Joe would have faced many hostile crowds whilst fighting Englishmen in England, England and Wales big sporting rivals, the countrys were at war 600 years ago, this just adds to his achievements. Roy Jones Jnr had never fought a pro fight outside the USA, he fights in Australia and gets hammered, Americans Taylor and Dirrell both fight in Europe and both lose, Kessler fights in the USA and gets butted to death, not to mention other home boxers like Bernard Hopkins and Amir Khan easily winning in the last few weeks. Its not easy fighting away from home, time zones, climate, food, language, away from family, local officials, the roar of the crowd when the home boxer gets some punches off influencing the judges, yet Calzaghe overcame these obsticles to win.
This board should be renamed 3 Degrees of Joe Calzaghe. I could post a topic on Patsy Cardiff's jab parrying savvy and within 3 posts it would be exhalting or denigrating Calzaghe's resume.
I didn't notice this part the first time. If this guy was not serious, this would be a really funny comment. But, he actually is serious........ :yikes
Uh-huh, and 600 years ago the English court was only just stopping speaking French after the Norman conquest. In terms of relevance it means exactly the same thing as your so called points: jack ****. By your logic, every time Tyson fought in Madison Square Garden, he was fighting away from home because it wasn't until 1898 that Brooklyn was incorporated into the city of New York. So Manhattan is not home ground for Tyson at all. atsch Oh, and if England and Wales are not at least tied together at the hip, kindly tell me why the title of English princes in line for the throne is "The Prince of Wales". Sit down, shut up, and crawl the **** out of classic forum, dumbass.
