Golovkin, also a conqueror of Yordanis Despaigne and Andy Lee at the amateurs, is with Spotlight/Universum promotions, the same stable Sturm recently left due to a dispute of different perspectives. Now with the "help" of Universum Golovkin became the #1 challenger at the WBA (but don't forget he was supposed to face Tarvis Simms and Ishe Smith before both pulled out leaving Gennady without legit fights), Golo might get his chance pretty soon. So it is the chance for both Sturm and Universum for "revenge" whereas this could be Gennady's shortcut to the top and popularity. [/FONT]
Golovkin should beat him. Sturm is going to find that he no longer gets favors from the judges now that he's not with Universum.
Yes I hope Sturm fights Golovkin... That could be the end of Sturms reign IMO... Golovkin is very well rounded without real weaknesses. Let's get it on
Sturm is supposedly a free agent now, and there is talk of him working with Roach at The Wild Card Gym. I'd like to see him keep that title long enough to get Pavlikated. Williams and Martinez want no part of Pavlik, so Pavlik/Sturm could happen as soon as March/April.
I keep fairly up to date on boxing but till today id never heard of this guy-now he's WBA no1 contender.All for feeding on a diet of stiffs.We saw in the Khan fight how much care the WBA takes when choosing it's no.1 contender spot.
Ok, forgot about the Griffin fight. But only the first one, the second one was a clear Sturm-decision. Gavor was the one close to getting knocked out, He punched a lot , but most of it was inefficient pressure, hitting a lot of gloves.
Here's my position: As soon as Pavlik beat Taylor he announced a goal of unifying the division, and he stated that goal several times afterward. Pavlik/Abraham never happened because the money wasn't there. As soon as AA started to build a rep in the states, so the money could have worked out, he left the division rather than fight KP. I still want Pav to stick to his goal of unifying the division.
Think you need to watch those fights again, leaving your bias behind you. Gevor was game, but he mostly hit the gloves and those that got through didn't do much damage. In contrast, Sturms body punches were hurtful and he was chasing Gevor in the last third of the fight. It's a small wonder that Gevor didn't get KOed. Griffin I was a toss up, one of the worst performances by Sturm. I, and many other including the judges, had it a draw...but the second fight was not even competitive.
and :roll: :roll: at the same time... I mean, where do you live, in a balloon world called Bob Arum? AA was desperate, desperate to come to the states and fight Pavlik... they kept the building reputation bull**** as an excuse until even the most stubborn would give up (AA was fighting the last 3-4 fights seriously weight drained). Ask people here what do they believe, Bob Arum wanted the match or that he was not very keen on it after AA's destruction of Miranda?!
