Are there any good fighters with NO Amateur background?

    Anthony Mundine fought 4 amateur fights when he was 17,went away and became a professional rugby league player and then went pro in boxing at 25!

    So basically he had no amateur career

    The best fighter of all time with no amatuer background is GENERO HERNANDEZ. 1-2 as an amatuer.

    It's still impressive since usually who are that accomplished in the amateurs start as children

    Duran and Benitez did not have great amatuer experiences. Hearns and Leonard did, and they are all in the same class. It is hard to find a boxer who uses the ring and moves around great who did not have an amatuer background. Which shows you how great Benitez was.

    That's what is was about to post, Martinez started boxing at the age of 19, i think that's what I heard the HBO commentators say. before that he was playing soccer.

    What about Michael Grant? I thought he had little or no ammy background.
