Jones was awesome for HBO during the 90s. He'd get a job back there sharpish. So much better than Lennox and Foreman.

Thanks for the info, PM Kool.

Addie, I don't think I ever heard RJJ commentate. I do reckon he'd be good though. Definitely better than Mr No Charisma Lewis!

A true legend of the game no doubt and recent events have no bearing on his legacy, imo. Roy jones is a true All Time Great, zero doubt.

Still, he's made many millions out of being at best an average fighter for half a decade - in the context of people struggling in the real world, I find it hard to feel too sorry for him.

The outcome clearly upset him though and I think he's finally realised it may be time to face the music, that it is over - he is not "superman" anymore. The limousine looks out of place and sadly shows even superman doesn't draw the crowds after several losses.

Luckily for Roy though, his chin (of recent years) ironically may be his saviour. He hasn't had any long tragic Ali like beatings and therefore, hopefully now, will retire with all his faculties intact.

He did loads of Barrera's fights when he was fighting for HBO on Boxing After Dark. Excellent all the time, and he also did the third fight with Morales.

    Brilliant commentator.

Roy Jones is a true great and a giant of this era. No doubts about it.

But of course he should retire. The last few wins sort of got a few peoples hopes up, not least his own, but this should quickly quell that and common sense will prevail. You know when RJJ is talking about retirement he's realised such is his ego.

an athletic phenom who could've been great at anything he tried at a young age (thank God he chose boxing) but with all that freak athleticism came a whole alotta fundamental flaws and is the reason he finds himself in this situation when fundamentally sound guys like JT and Bernard still ain't taking a beating past 40.

Roy was just so unique though and imo its very difficult to see anyone who beats him in his prime in the sports history.

strange though how he was so effected by what happened to his good friend the Gman and he still continued to fight into his 40th.

All of these posts, bar the haters, are terrific and are fitting tributes.

To be honest after watching that I dunno what to say. I've got all his fights, have watched them over and over and over, have studied him, tried to copy his moves when I used to train(!) but that video was a wee bit much for me.

After the Ruiz fight he should've retired or took the fight with Tyson, whichever.

    RJJ = legend.

Really sad video that, seeing Roy Jones looking so down after another horrible defeat for him was hard. Especially to those of us who remember how he was in the 90s etc, Amazing fighter, hope he retires and gets a job on HBO or something as people have said, just dont do another rap album Roy! Legend!

Hopkins still thinks the fight's a possibility, but the end of the day, he's just thinking of the money and also the fact it's a chance to avenge his defeat to RJJ in '93.

This fight shouldn't happen for me, if there was going to be a Hopkins-Jones Jr II it should have been done years ago when both fighters were in the prime. It's a pointless fight and I think RJJ should retire now.

RJJ is a true legend of the sport and I do hope he doesn't take another fight.....but if he does, I will watch it and root for him!

This post from this idiot must be the worst, most ridiculous post i've ever had the misfortune to read on this forum, and ive read plenty of shite in the past from guys like Dunky .. But this post is beyond contempt, the poster knows nothing about boxing and knows nothing about the true genius of Roy Jones Jr .... You musnt of been a boxing fan in the 90's, apart from the fight were he was dq'd he bearly lost a round in countless fights, he was the most dominant fighter i have ever seen, the most fluid and most naturally gifted i've ever seen, he has to be regarded as the greatest fighter since Sugar Ray Leonard, that question isnt even in debate ..
He was the undisputed P4P no 1 for almost a decade, he didnt have much competition at Lightweight but to be frank it would have taken Ezzard Charles, Archie Moore or Harry Greb to really push him .... Tarver, Calzaghe and any of these average over-acheivers wouldnt have done anything with a 90s Roy, he would have toyed with them, showboated and made them look very ordinary .... To have the greatest fighter of this generation denigrated by a tosser like this poster annoys the hell out of me, is no boxer and his acheivements beyond criticism in here ??

Roy Jones is a fighter that fans of the sport will be watching for the next 100 years, they will be mezmerised, they will be awestruck and they will pray for the 'Next Roy Jones', but they'll never be one. A true Boxing genius, a true superstar and i want to say what an honour and a true pleasure it was to watch his career, unforgettable ..

In 100 years people will watch Calzaghe and think to themselves, 'Why the hell is he punching like that?', 'That looks awful, hes missing 9 out of 10 punches, no accuracy, no skill but 100% effort and hard work'

Axl Salutes Roy Jones Jr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, basically - because I disagree with you I'm an idiot, and know nothing about boxing?

My opinion of Jones is based on who he fought and the way he behaved against them in the ring. If after he beat Toney he'd thought to himself - I'm a great fighter, with incredible skills, and I want to challenge myself by facing the best - then I'd have no issue with him. But he didn't. He squandered his best years.

When he could fight, he didn't want to. Now he can't he won't stop.

The guy was contemptuous and arrogant towards many of his opponents, so I don't feel sorry for him. he's achieved much more than almost anyone else on earth, he's made a fortune, he's got his health, he's got his family - what's to feel sorry for? He lost a fight - so what, it's boxing, he's shot and it was bound to happen. Again.

So grow up, and stop thinking that just cause someone disagrees with you, they must automatically be wrong.
