Did anyone's mind change about Paul Williams?

In the vast majority of discussions about who can beat Floyd Mayweather, two names always come up...Shane Mosley and Paul Williams. (Hardly ever Manny Pacquiao). Mosley is a bit more rare, but Williams definitely comes up when people talk about who'd give PBF his first loss.

Did the Sergio Martinez fight change anyone's mind? Williams didn't look so hot in that fight, and he showed that he is vulnerable to counterpunches, a skill Floyd is a master at. Before that fight, I didn't think Mayweather even had the testicular fortitude to step into the ring with Williams, but afterwards...I don't know. I'm now thinking Floyd might beat Williams rather easily.

Bu then again, maybe not. Mayweather wouldn't be nearly as willing to trade shots with Williams as Martinez was, and doesn't have the power to back Paul up the way Martinez was able to, and Williams could possibly beat May in the same fashion I think Pacquiao will...being aggressive, and causing Floyd to rely on too much defense and not enough offense....what does everyone else think?

His defense is his offense. If he is not throwing punches, he is very open for some leather to be landed. Not good.

That fight against Sergio shouldn't change anyone's mind. If you belived it before, you should certainly belive it now. In all the hoopla about Williams getting KD'd and constantly rocked with timed, fully loaded shots from a guy who KO'd Cintron, one thing is being lost...

Despite taking flush, fully-commited shots right on the button, Paul Williams somehow kept pressing the action relentlessly as if it were still the first round. And hepressed it for 12 entire Rounds. Floyd has some pop... but not nearly the pop that Martinez has. After this weekend, I just don't think he has enough to back Williams off of him.

He showed that he can still be Quintana'd . I thought he had switched his style up a bit and sacrifice activty for power but he went almost strictly for volume against Martinez, which i don't understand. His attack exposes him to counters. I think he would be a better fighter if he stayed behind his long jab and attacked more selectively. That would make it tough for opponenets to counter him.

But he also showed in this fight that he has a ton of heart.

Kills me to see a guy of his size fight like he does. The guy could beat so many people utilizing his height and reach, but he doesnt, he likes to mix it up, and ultimately that is going to make him an oridinary fighter once his opponents can take his shots to land their own, and you saw that in his last fight.
I dont seem him being a major player at middleweight, he just leaves himself too wide open. Someone is going to clock him real good.

    It definetely changed mine.

I dont want to say hes one dimensional, but he certainly cannot adjust. He relies too heavily on his athleticsm and size to win and not his boxing ability.

I did. I was very impressed with his fight with Margarito and rematch with Quintana. I thought he had an off night with Quintana the first time. His power is def overrated and he can be outboxed.

Well he kind of his one dimensional. His whole game is moving forward and throwing a lot of punches, with little emphasis on defense or dimension, and that kind of style gets exposed when its not as effective because of an advantage in strength or physical size.
Some fighters just can never learn how to utilize their height and reach, and are forced to fight a certain way. He kind of always reminded me of a busier Diego Corrales at lightweight only Corrales was technically better, and Williams threw more punches, but both somewhat one dimensional in their own rights.

your talking apples and oranges when comparing martinez to mayweather, im a big mayweather fan and i think in terms of pound for pound boxing skill williams should never ever be mentioned in the same discussion, but in terms of raw size and volume and stamina, id say williams would still have a strong shot at overwhelming mayweather, however he did not get exposed in this fight because martinez is an excellent fighter and anyone who knows boxing knows that, but ive always sadi i didnt think williams was as good as advertised, hes not technically sound and if he ever temps to move up to supermiddle where he will lose his main advantage his size, he will get destroyed

nope, i knew the fight would be tough going in..... in fact he impressed me. I know that sounds weird but he impressed me.... he had been down, he was dead tired, and he kept coming, he kept trying, i was impressed actually.

I think he needs to learn in certain situations though to fight tall..... at least with his jab, id like to see his jab improve and used more.

I dont think its possible at this point, but can you imagine that guy fighting like Vitali Klitschko at 147? He would be impossible to beat.

If Martinez had true middleweight power, I doubt if Paul would have made it out of the 3rd round. At the opening bell he tried to mug Martinez, and got his ass handed to him by a light middleweight. 160 is definitely not Paul's division. All this crap about how Williams can fght effectively anywhere from 147-168 is now officially a Peterson/Goosen bull**** story.

Paul's biggest problem at 147 is that he is not a draw, and there are guys in the division with a whole lot more drawing power. That means there is more money for the top guys to fight people other than Williams.

At 154 PW can probably hang with the best. However, I'm not sure he'd capture another win with Martinez fighting at his best weight.

At 160 Paul has neither the chin nor the power to survive a fire fight with Pavlik. The problem is, that's the only way PDub knows how to fight.

At 168; fo get about it!
