How many heavyweights had faster hands than tyson?.

I don't know that anyone threw hooks as short and quick as Tyson though.

 

None of the genuine heavies. Of course Roy Jones.

 

tubbs possible for single shot, dokes in combinations but neither of them quite had tyson's speed

as was said, patterson and ali were the fastest ever likely. joe louis had underrated hand speed and could compare with tyson. other than that...

 

Tyson had shorter arms (than Ali)... so he could throw hooks with more ferocity.

Ali, possibly Louis or Patterson but defo Ali.

Quite a few guys I would guess. I wouldnt put tyson in the top of my list. Id have to think about it some to actually give a list. He is maybe top 15.

 

just thinking from the jeffries era on, i can't think of many. keep in mind both in single punch and combination tyson was unreal. he was throwing 6-8 combinations with the speed of a middleweight

 

Overall hand speed Ali, Patterson, Louis (on the inside), and maybe a prime Cleveland Williams all had equal or slightly better hand speed then Tyson IMO.

 

Actually if you watch footage of Dempsey he did have rather fast hands...its hard to judge due to film quality issues though, but I wouldnt say he was faster then Demsey.

What I don't understand is the posters saying Tyson threw "short hooks" lol, he threw very wide looping hooks...but they usually where effective due to his speed..his tendency to go southpaw and confuse his no hoper oppoents..and the fact that he would throw those big hooks when his oppoents where going backwards running scared.

 

Well no duh, everyone could throw hooks with more ferocity then Ali, that isnt really saying anything.
