In this clip from our exclusive interview with Sugar Ray Leonard he discusses his reasons from taking a fight with Marvin Hagler and why he thinks a rematch never happened.

yes, thanks for that jenna. Hagler had enough of it .up until that time in histoy you needed to beat the champ in order to take the mans title. Most expected Hagler to hurt Leonard in this fight,as ray was out of boxing for some time,& I think hagler stalked leonard for to many rounds expecting to get points as the agressor(as leonard would only engage maybe 30 sec. a round). As fight went on fans and judges bought into the mirage of Leonard actually winning the fight.Got to admit leonard was good & smart enough not to go toe to toe,But championship fights changed that day,and not for the better

    Leonard by TKO in 5

Moving to Milan, Italy was a smart move for Marvin, no need to lose worse this time around than he did the 1st time, he only side stepped what Lalonde ended up taking :D

I can't view the clip but Leonard would not give a rematch to anyone who could threaten to beat him in a rematch.

I believe Hagler would of took a rematch if offered, but that he was not hearing what he wanted from the Leonard side and said forget this im not going to play this game and then moved to Italy. But it's such a shame cause I believe Hagler would of fought different in the rematch and not give away early rounds like he did to end up winning by late Knockout or close decision the second time around.

well, you basically have two guys in hagler and leonard saying two different things. but this was a re-confirmation that leonard only fought hagler because he knew he was slipping. leonard would have never gotten in the ring with a prime hagler.

why couldnt he give Hagler a rematch? For the same reason he couldnt defend his title against a worthy contender (Nunn)

    he knew he'd lose

you cant take anything from his victory against hearns because hearns was unbeaten and destroying people but for such a close fight, why did the rematch take place almost 8 years later? and allegedly against duran, srl rushed for a rematch inorder for duran to lose a bunch of wieght to get back down to welterweight which would affect any fighter, having to so much wieght ina short time span. you cant deny srl's resume but when you look into it and analyze it, it does seem srl took well-calculated risks in order to get every advantage he could.

    - We criticize Leonard for waiting 8 years to give Hearns a rematch.
    - We criticize Leonard for rematching Duran to soon.

    ...Bleh!

Because Hearns moved up in weight immediately after losing, and Leonard retired after that because of a detached retina.
