Harsh word that, Dan. Not quite the way I see it, but I'd say maybe he isn't as good as everyone thought in the first place. Brilliant Euro level fighter who was given a world alphabet strap outside of the ring and then went on to lose it in his first defence. He was never world-class and now just seems intent on making excuses for every loss he suffers. He's never going to be effective in new weight divisions either, IMHO. Shame, but that's the way boxing can be at times.

I think getting down to 130 for so long - when he ought to have been at 135 affected him.

I don't think he was all that in the first place, strictly top end domestic/mid Euro level, but still, not good to see him losing to the likes of Nigel Wright, who is the ultimate domestic gatekeeper.

Time to give it up and do something else :deal

Probably a combination; him facing a good fighter at 140 and Ive never heard of a boxer getting better by sitting at home and no he wasn't all that great to begin with.

He was a European level fighter on his best night, forget the title he was handed. He beat Gulyakevich which was probably his best win infact, the guy who in turn beat Kirakosyan and Vitali Tajbert so that shows Arthur could handle the Euro scene on his best nights. But world class...never in a million years did anything about him say world class.

He was also prone to inconsistency in his career, he has the wins over Limond, Burns and Gulyakevich but was **** against Gomez, Foster Jr and now Wright. Just emphasizes the point on his best night he was European class and on an average to poor night he was a domestic fighter.

 

See what I mean about Guzman now TFFP? Imagine the fight with Arthur happened. Most armed with the benefit of hindsight would say Guzman would have beaten Arthur. What if Arthur beat Guzman though? He would be looked upon as not only a great scottish fighter, but a great british fighter.
However, Guzman ****ed it all up like he did with Harrison by not making the weight & the fight fell through.

That overrated git Guzman could have raised Arthurs stock so much higher, he would have made Harrison an elite level fighter if Harrison had beaten him, but big mouth Guzman pulled out of both fights to my disgust.

& THATS why I hate Guzman SO much. His overrated ass could have made legends out of Harrison or Arthur, but he failed to show up for both fights, & Im still hurting that hes got his 0, while Scottys in the jail & Arthur has fell away.
Sorry for going on, but maybe now you will realise my pain that night when you lads were doing the Funeka rbr & all had Guzman losing, only for him to steal a draw... Guzman is my arch nemesis:twisted:

 

He was cream of the Euro class at least, lets not forget sailed through most of his defences and absolutely owned Boris Sinisten the night he won the title. He also beat Gulyakavich who went on to stop that absolute monster that knocked out Carl Johannson twice, basically destroying him the second time.

IMO Warren waited too long to move Arthur up from Euro level and by the time he did, he was simply becoming too tight at the weight. It was visable in the Nicky Cook fight where his work rate was extremely poor, even when he knew he had to play catch up on the score cards.

I wouldn't write him off yet and would give a good chance against any of the lightweights in Britain.

 

Always the easy thing to do with a fighter...... blame Warren for stalling his career. He was overhyped in the first place and everything that brought along that hype was left in the ring the night Gomez pummelled him.

Fighters have bad nights against mediocre opponents, Khan v Prescott & Haye v the cat immediately springs to mind. Such is boxing, such is life. Every so often, a good fighter gets beat by a bad one.

british, european & world champion. Not bad for a hypejob.
