After the Price fight last night Johnny Nelson said the race is on amongst the Olympians for the first title shot. Clearly this means a domestic belt. I would like them to go the convential route - Area -English - British or Commonwealth - Lonsdale belt for keeps then European. Who will be the first one to wear a strap? Degale Gavin Saunders Jeffries Price Murrey I will add a non Olympian George Groves to the list
Gavin. Also Price has a chance of being first due to the state of the heavyweight division (currently in a transition).
Gavin and Degale will be the first two. They are fighting in the weakest divisions and are also the two most talented (if you take away Degale's last "performance") Billy Joe needs to lose weight and would be better off taking time as Light Middle is pretty stacked. Jeffries and Price are nowhere near their opposition has been horrific and needs a major change if they are to go for a title anytime soon.
Gavin, easily. The division is pretty strong but he has already laid down a few markers as to his potential. I'd quite happily stick him in with any domestic 140lb'er in the summer. There isn't any point in holding them back, any of them. Little Frank likes Lavtian cab drivers for his fighters, so Jeffries and Price will have to wait until 2012 for a British title fight.
Well I mean in terms of stregnth in depth. Paul Smith has looked poor for a number of years now and hasn't proven that he is a great champion, the winner of Carl Dilks-Charles Adamu is hardly going to be a daunting task and Tony Dodson although I respect because he doesn't pull the over hype crap like Paul Smith should be very beatable for an olympic gold medalist and below that other then Kenny Anderson. I really don't see him and Geogre Groves or Tony Jeffries fighting it our for British and Commonwealth titles they will be kept apart. I don't count Brian Magee because he is going for the European and I think he can win.
frankie gavin it has to be but look at the exposure degales getting wouldent be surprised if it was him
