Danny Lopez vs Barry McGugian

Simular to the O'Grady fight. Lopez just too much power & would take over the fight to a mid fight stoppage.

 

I think this would be a great fight and both would score knockdowns early. Mcguigan would take a lead going into the 8th round when Danny suddenly turns the lights out on Barry ........Lopez ko8 Mcguigan

 

I really liked Barry McGuigan as well as Danny Lopez, but this one isn't hard to figure out...Lopez..the very dangerous Little Red would have found Barry's chin inevitably in the middle to late rounds if not sooner, and it would have been "lights out" (sorry James Toney) as they say.

 

Now before i go any further, i understand that nobody is shitting on mcGuigan here, but why is it that people think mcGuigan would be KOd. Ive read other threads like this with mcGuigan against numerous guys and the majority always go for mcGuigan to be KOd. Why? The guy was never ever KOd in his entire life, amateur or pro. I seen ,from about 30ft away, mcGuigan getting hit with 2 right hands in the last round from juan laporte that would have at least knocked down most fighters but mcGuigan just shook it off. His ability to take a good punch stands up there with most. The one thing about mcGuigan was that he always fought his own fight and let the other guy worry about what he was gonna do rather than vice-versa. His boxing ability often gets overlooked as well as he wasnt just a brawler. Just look at the Pedroza or laporte fight when he makes them miss with 3/4/5 punches by just moving his head an inch either way which,i think, is an art in itself. Im not saying he would walk through Lopez or anything like that, just that people would give him a little more credit than constantly saying he would be KOd. This isnt aimed at anyone in particular. Its just a rant that i wanted to get off my chest concerning him

 

I appreciate your post, but taking a Danny Lopez right hand not only knocked out sturdy fighters, it often left them laying on the canvass for 2-3 minutes. Barry was solid, but not that solid.

 

McGuigan's come foward style is exactly what Little Red would want. Barry would make a fight of it because he had good skills and was tough as nails. But Lopez's right hand was a hurting thing and taking too many would hazardous to anyone's health. Lopez would bust up McGuigan's face and force a referee's stoppage. He would go out on his shield.

A great dream fight............... OOOHH!!! Either guy could win..... Lopez has the edge in power, but McGuigan had insane stamina........ If the temps. are below 90 degree's, I pick McGuigan of '85 to beat Lopez of '75 by late round TKO......... Its close.... Too close to really call.......

The heat in Vegas in 1986 is what really hurt McGuigan against Steve Cruz......... By round 13 in 100+ temps., McGuigan finally wilted, but he was winning after 12 rds on my card....... Cruz won the fight in them championship rds when McGuigan was heat exhausted........

All which leads to the obvious question of why the hell McGuigan's people would agree to an outdoor fight in Las Vegas in late June? Someone needed to bone up on his geography before agreeing to that date.

The date wasnt the problem, it was the time of day when the sun was its hottest which f****d him up.Dunno if your aware but there was a huge falling out as a result of that. It seemed to be the catalyst to a chain of claim and counter claim with mcGuigan and Eastwood which resulted in several court cases. Both sides were as guilty as the other for not doing their homework. The rumourmill went into overdrive on this fight. One thing that is certain is the odds on Cruz dropped dramatically in the last day leading to the fight. Rumour had it at the time that Eastwood,a well-known bookmaker, had 6 figures on the result. Probably bull**** but that was the story doing the rounds at the time

 

Battle of the chins imo. And this goes def in favour of McGugian.

Stopped reading Boxrec and watch some fights. Lopez could be dropped but he was very resilient and strong-chinned, watch the two beatings Sanchez lays on him.

 

I agree with a lot of what you're saying. There was a recent thread matching McGuigan vs Marquez/Morales/Barrera and several poster's predicting McGuigan gets KO'd by all of them. That's just not realistic seeing as how McGuigan never KO'd.
But I do think this is a very tough matchup for Barry. He did fight his own fight and try to dictate the fight. The trouble is, he didn't have the proper style for beating Lopez. I'm going to have to say Lopez by late round TKO. Lopez was a huge puncher and I think his right hand would eventually take it's toll on Barry.

(2) Been there, done that. Lopez got a shaky chin, plus he was a slow bum compared to McGuigan.
