Nice win for Mir.. Expected him to win via gnp or sub, and that is a great guillotine, great instincts on Mir''s behalf to sink it.. I'm not sure if it was intentional for Mir to go for a choke in that position, or a mistake, as Congo would have been close to side control position had Mir's choke failed. If anything, I'm impressed with Mir's power and ability to follow up.. I'll eat crow, even though I'm not certain his standup is vastly improved, I have to assume so because people don't just go in and floor kickboxers with an overhald left, he is normally orthodox standing I believe.. Nice fight, though I expected Mir to take out Congo in the first round.. Kongo reminds me of a guy who is dangerous, but also very flawed. A modern day Gary Goodrich, a benchmark for fighters tbh.. If you want to consider a win against Kongo, as huge sign for Mir, that is going to silence the critics.. I'll just say he delivered more than was expected, but against I guy I totally expected him to dominate. I'll be more impressed, and really dig into the crow when he beats another good fighter who has well matched skill sets. Your day man. I'll eat crow for now though
Now Mir ending that fight so quickly didn't give you a chance to see much?:blood That's a great thing. Kongo wasn't in his league and got his ass finished right away. Has any other fighter done that to Kongo?
It was impressive, yes. Finishing someone that fast is great but doesn't always tell the whole story in terms of if someone has actually upped their game. For instance, Frank was bigger, so was that extra weight going to slow him down in the later rounds? That's a question we never got answered. We did see Frank throw an awesome shot but I think we all know he's capable of that, and he's very capable of choking someone out with relative ease. I think most of us figured Kongo was out of his league so it wasn't too much of a surprise what happened, just happened so fast, before Kongo got a chance to test Frank and answer questions the critics have.
Beebs you hit the nail on the mother****ing head my man. Mir is soooo overatted thats all I hear on this board non stop. Well once agian you idiots Mir proved he can strike he KTFO Nogueira and damn near took Kongo's head off and choked him out cold with what was also overatted Jiu Jitsu skills. Accept it Frank Mir is one of the 5 best Heavyweights in MMA.
mir is pretty ****in amazing and kongo is pretty good also um beebs try not to get so pissed off while reading so many stupid posts about how crap mir is u know hez not crap so **** it trust yourself beebs use the force beebs oh by the way it just came out that kongo waz fighting with a touch of ebola
Mir isn't overrated, the guy is damn good and doesn't have many weaknesses at all. Do you all think he stands any better of a chance if he faces Brock again, assuming Brock recovers and is just as impressive as before?
He stands a better chance now with added strength, but I would still favor Lesnar, but that really isn't the point.
It seemed to me like Mir thinks Brock beat him last time mostly because of his strength and athleticism, which Mir appears to be working on. Mir will never be as strong or athletic as Brock, the question is can he become strong ENOUGH for his ground skills to work against Brock.
Mir beats Kongo and now he's a top 5 heavy? Are you guys serious? No ones ever doubted his ground game. Everyone expected him to win by sub and thats exactly what happened. But this is Kongo people. The same Kongo that tried to grapple with Cain. The same Kongo who lost to a shot Heath Herring. Yeah Frank Mirs back alright....
lol, beebs jumping all over Mir's ground game because he submitted a guy who wouldn't last against a decent blue belt.
Perfect performance and finish from Mir but against a man who's never impressed me once in Kongo. The Mirhuggers should'nt get too excited because Mir has Been proven to be extremely hot and cold in his career. Mir could easily end up bashed to **** again in his next fight.
