  1. Mir won, but is still a douchebag.

Kongo needs to go to K-1. He has no ground skills and has no business in MMA.

He got put on his ass by Mir, i am of the opinion that K-1 wouldn't be a great idea.

I understand your point but that move would be all wrong for him.

Kongo would get his ass chewed up in K-1. That would be career suicide:deal

Mir proved me wrong. I had a genuine dislike for the guy, an unwarranted one at that, and wanted to see him lose. He made me feel real dumb. Incredible performance and I'm happy for him. He took quite a set back against Lesnar, very interested in seeing him work his way back to a rubber match.

Looks like Pac is inspiring everyone. I read somewhere even BJ watch the Pac-Cotto fight and was amazed with what he saw.

MANILA, Philippines – Former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Frank Mir said his UFC 107 victory over French Cheick Kongo on Saturday in Memphis, Tennesse (Sunday in Manila) was inspired by no less than seven-division world champ Manny Pacquiao.

“It’s something we’ve been saying the whole training camp. We call it ‘The Pacquiao,’ because Manny Pacquiao will step off as a southpaw and throw the overhand left,” Mir said in a report by Gareth Davies of The Telegraph.

“As soon as I hit Kongo I went to catch him with the uppercut and I didn’t see him, he was on the ground,” he recounted his knockdown of his French opponent.

“The Pacquiao” punch is regarded as one of the pound-for-pound king’s trademark blows. He used this to floor Briton Ricky Hatton in the “Battle of the East and West” in May 2, Davies noted.

Yeah he was just to damn small in that rematch. 245 isn't for him. Putting the muscle on definately makes the matchup more interesting. I don't think it was a lack of gas that hurt him against Lesnar, it was a lack of size. Mir from the rematch and Mir from the first fight looked completely different. And now Mir at 264 just looks absolutely phenomenal. Sure the fight wasn't that long, but how many of Mir's victories are? Other than the Dan Christenson circus show, Mir's victories are dominant and he finishes fights very quickly.

I'd love to see Kongo go to K-1 & get KTFO in every fight. I can't believe the ufc invested in such a bore.

Thanks for clearing that one up. 20lbs extra makes perfect sense now. Seeing as the extra 20lbs really worked for Kongo i guess every other MMA heavy can take a leaf out of his book. As the recipe for success as you've explained is obviously that simple. Seeing as im clearly not as bright as you in the "wrastling" ass licking department why didnt Mir put on 50lbs? **** it why not a 100lbs? I eagerly await your answer.

Dont waste your time. Gracie proved how effective BJJ was irrespective of size but Beebs missed that class. He was busy polishing Lesnar jock with his tongue. Anything "wrastling" and you can sure fire expect good ol Beebs to defend it at all costs. I mean Mir did drop Kongo with a left hook with those added 20lbs of MUSCLE! That means the boys too legit to quit. :thumbsup

Rogers legitimate? You need to pass the good ****. I said Rogers was a solid prospect who couldnt be casually dismissed by a muppet like you because he has world class power in either mitt. But because he doesnt hold any BJJ belts or spent some time in a D1 school "wrastling" he's ass off he immediately loses credibility in your eyes right?

So now Mir despite having strong BJJ credentials you think he's a lock for beating Rogers because he's striking is legit off the back of Big Nog and Kongo.:lol: Keep it coming Beebs keep it coming..

You continue to amaze me with your stupidity.

He added as much strength as he could in the time he had; surely you understand you can't simply limitlessly add strength and size on command? Maybe you don't, you are proving to know very little about anything.

Why didn't he add more you ask, well like I said even if he was trying, real world limitations come into play. Assuming he could have added more, which we can't know, maybe he didn't want to have to cut a lot of weight.

The unified rules have a 265 pound limit on heavyweights, guys like Lesnar cut to make that.

So either he added as much as he could, he doesn't want to cut a lot of water weight to make 265, or he feels that he is at or approaching a point at which adding weight loses it's margin of benefit in comparison to the time it takes and many other factors.

Easy read: guy realizes he needs to be stronger and bigger, guy works with world class strength coach, guy gets stronger and bigger, reasonable people understand, idiots criticise without having a ****ing clue what they are talking about.

Look at that world class figure. You can really see those delts and those abs just crying to break out. Looks like some solid functional strengh there. Shame i cant see it. But hey what would i know about weight lifting and strength seeing as you the authority around here.

Well yes, as a matter of fact Mir did wrestle.

All combat sports, including wrestling, are based on technique, assuming technique stays the same, then being stronger is a clear advantage.

Mir is not just a sport BJJ player, he is an MMA fighter, one that got completly outpowered against Lesnar. Seeing that weakness, Mir got stronger, hoping that next time his added strength will help him implement his technique. What is so hard to understand?

Even though the point of how strong sport grapplers are is pretty irrelevant, let's actually look at some of the best and their strength.

Jacare is a ****ing beast, Roger has been known to rip a brand new gi, undefeated ADCC champ Arona is unusually strong, Xande is extremly strong, almost all of the old Carlson Gracie team were strong.

There are plenty of great BJJ players who are great without being strong, but none of them are planning on fighting Lesnar in MMA, and all other things being equal, they would improve to some degree if they were stronger

Just because technique can overcome strength, doesn't mean it always will, nor does it mean that improved strength won't help your overall game, especially if you are having problems with a bigger stronger opponent.

Weight classes exist for a reason, and like I said, this isn't a BJJ tournament, it's an MMA fight and strength is always going to matter, how could anybody disagree with that in modern MMA.

Your love of a "sport" involving men in speedos and fake tans flexing seems to be impeding your logic.

Can you see strength? Can you tell by a picture how much more functional strength he has gained? Can you tell how much his grip strength is?

He isn't trying to be Mr. Olympia, he is trying to be a better fighter, he thinks being stronger will help that; I think that is a pretty reasonable belief given it will decrease one advantage Lesnar had over him.

If a former world class strength athlete (note: not a bodybuilder) and world class strength coach has worked with him and changed the way Mir works out, I guess I'm just crazy enough to think that he may have made him stronger.

But hey, you've got one picture of him, I guess all that work was for naught.
