lol i can admit im a mir hater, but in reality he is a top ten HW no doubt, but i dont see him beating guys like fedor, brock, cain, carwin, a healthy nog, barnett or dos santos. i believe mir made a career on subbing strikers with limited ground game, much like liddell made a career of KOing grapplers with limited striking skills

Mir subbed BJJ world champion Roberto Tavern when Mir was only a purple belt. He snatched his arm and nearly tore it off.

Mir would smash the **** out of Cain. His game is much more well rounded and Mir would son Cain out like BJ just did to Diego.

Carwin? Good fighter. But still suspect. He's not an elite HW. Sure if he landed a big shot he'd probably do some damage, but if he doesn't? How would he do against Mir? Especially when Mir can possibly land something big also.

Unhealthy NOG? Just maybe. But that was only half the situation. NOG getting dropped my Mir wasn't only because of NOG's health. Mir is proving to have excellent hands and obviously has power. Mir last saturday night dropped a "striker" that most people thought would knock him out standing. Then come to read a few people's reactions, that have the audasity to say they knew that was gonna happen:lol: Yeah ****in right.

Dos Santos? Another good fighter. Nice prospect. Guess what? He'd be tested by Mir. Wanna know what's the difference between Mir and Cro Cop right now? Mir is focused and has every intent on snapping a limb or literally putting you to sleep with a choke. Don't overrate Dos Santos. He's a nice up & comer, don't feed him to a lion so quickly.

Barnett? Oh you mean that steroid user? That cheater? That actually got busted twice? Yeah, Barnett. Him. That guy. Let's see if Barnett can pass a drug test then you can bring him up.

Fedor? Hey he's the man. He's the best. Mir is not the only man that can't beat him. NOBODY ELSE CAN'T EITHER.

You really think after all of these years Mir has suddenly inreased his strength by any degree? He has put 20lb on, it will give him added stability as mass moves mass, but it isn't going to be hugely apparent. Added to the fact that he looks soft, its clearly not muscle weight. Mir always trains for fights, there is no mystery here, all of this "i'm fully focused now and training harder than ever and have improved so much". Is complete hyperbole, heard it a million times before. He should train hardcore and add another 100lb, it's realy that simple afterall... Mir is a top ten fighter and in light of the paper thin depth of the division will pick up wins on occasion, he will also pick up losses.

Given that I saw that footage of him working out with a world class strength coach, deadlifitng serious weight, squatting serious weight, cleaning serious weight, farmer walking serious weight, yes I do think he got stronger. Wht is that so hard to believe?

He added strength, muscle size, and weight. Given that he didn't add much visible body fat (he certainly doesn't look softer, not ripped, but about the same as he did before), it's safe to assume that most of that weight is lean body mass/muscle.

Maybe you people don't know who Mark Philippi is, but he is a ****ing legend in American strength sports.

The facts are this: he gained weight, his body fat appears about the same meaning most of the weight is muscle, he is training with a great strength coach, he was lifting serious weight in various different lifts.

I honestly don't see why this is so hard to comprehend; BJ hires a specialist in conditioning and it is clearly showing, Mir hires a specialist in strength, adds weight, starts lifting seriously, and appears to have improved his strength.

What exactly doesn't make sense to you?. What part of this is confusing or hard to believe? Why could a guy not get stronger by working with Mark Philippi? Really I'm sick of having to explain something so ****ing simple.

He wanted to get stronger, brought the right guy in, evidence in the form of his weight with about the same bodyfat and the footage of his workouts shows that it has started to work. What's the issue? Nobody is claiming it's going to make him superman, nobody is saying it guarentees a win, nobody is even sure that he will stick with it. But what is undeniable is that if he continues to get stronger while maintaining the rest of his game, it will help close the gap in strength with Lesnar and give Mir a better chance of winning.

He also changed striking coaches from long time trainer Greg Hahn to a Dellagrotte assistant and brought in a boxig specialst. Are you people going to doubt that move helped as well?

Is there anything Mir can do that you idiots won't **** all over is the bigger question. A lot of you predicted Kongo would beat the **** out of him, a lot of you consistantly underestimate him. Now I appear to be his #1 fan when I am not; I like him as a fighter, I think he is an obvious top 5 heavy, but really all I want is for people to have some common ****ing sense and not actually be so blinded by their own dislike for the guy as to honestly belief that gaining 20 pounds under Mark Philippi didn't actually make him stronger, or that his striking hasn't gotten better. These are plain and simple facts, but since you people have been wrong about him and shown up, you fail to give any credit.

Frank Mir isn't that sort of BJJ practitioner though Beebs, unless I have seriously misjudged him, he isn't one of these naturally strong guys, who are going to use their BJJ as well as huge natural strength like an old school Rickson.

Jacare, shows up throws wrestlers around, has an offensive and naturally mauling bjj style, he is defined, but he seems to be more the mold of Rickson as well, naturally strong, and the sort of bjj player who has an imposing style, styles that allowed them to straight up **** and overpower people. While Jacare, and Rickson were comfy off their backs, they would find themselves in dominant positions in nearly all of their fights.

Arona has shown he had active strength on par with Fedor.. Now, I think if Mir could pick up the str to compete with his opponent, and become a bit more like Arona, he should dominate Lesnar.. But, you are asking someone like Mir to pick up his BJJ to the level of Arona, and compete with somebody like Lesnar in the str department?

I don't think its possible, I could be wrong, and maybe I'm misjudging Mir, but he isn't anywhere close to any of the guys you mentioned in the BJJ department. There are blackbelts, and then there are guys who I would regard,, dynamic...

I see Mir work off his back.. Even against Kongo, when he could have maintained dominant position and pounded Kongo out safely, he put Kongo in a Guillotine, and from a position where, had Kongo not tapped, would have likely been able to take side control, which is a bad move if you are trying to ready yourself for Lesnar..

Mir is the type of BJJ player who instinctually fights from is back it seems, rather than do something like maintain a dominant position, which he still hasn't seemed to work on... Strength, on Mir's part would be better used trying to maintain dominant position, walking a fine line of using strength and leverage to control Lesnar on the ground, possibly tiring him out, but that isn't Mir's style, or he hasn't shown it yet...

Lesnar has figured out enough about Mir's BJJ.. Only thing he did was not give Mir room to go for a submission by staying chest on chest, tiring Mir out, and then using short strikes to finish him off..

Mir, puts on muscle strength, weight, he is just going to get tired faster on the ground.. His instincts on the ground are to be on his back..

It seems like, he is putting on size, to maybe try and stuff takedowns, and keep a fight standing. So, I hope you see why I'm a little up in the air with his last fight.. I was initially impressed that he was trying to put on size and strength.. Possibly to try and wear Lesnar out, give himself a shot at dominant position against Lesnar, maybe stuff a takedown and give us some fireworks..

But, if he ups his strength, only to fight off his back, its all for not. He is has more the style to take advantage of opponents, STUPID mistakes on the ground. Lesnar has shown he is mauling enough, strong enough, controlling enough on the ground to not have to even give Mir the room for a submission.. Strength wont overcome Lesnars ground game if he has dominant position, unless Mir picks up a more ******, flexible style like BJ Penn, or matches str like Arona, or overpowers like Jacare..

Like I said, I don't think its possible. But, things don't always work out like they do on paper.

Kongo didn't tap. When Frank got a hold of the submission he put Kongo to sleep.

I think my point stands though. I'm not a BJJ fighter, I haven't fought competitively in my lifetime, nor do I plan to.. But that sub, from that position is double bladed.. Sure, its impressive that Mir can pull a sub from such a poor position. Its still a poor position, one where an opponent is very close to being able to get into side control if the sub fails, even a bystander like myself see's this. If that was a non dazed Kongo in that Choke, or if that was Brock Lesnar, or Fedor, or Arlovski, Or Barnett, or Gonzaga in that choke, would it have worked?

It would be outright stupid to attempt a similar sub on Lesnar, or any of the above fighters, as if such an opponent escapes, they are in a dominant position, especially when you had the opportunity to take the dominant position and safely pound them out.

Mir is supposed to be gearing up for Lesnar, he should have taken top control, tired, and pounded Kongo out, or gone for a Kimura, or other sub from the top.

Not gone to his back, to guillotine him from a sketchy position.

Negative over. This is mixed martial arts. I have zero problem with strength and conditioning. But i fail to see how an added 20lbs really upped Mir's game when he's strength is BJJ. Im not expecting Mir to look like Ronnie Coleman but if he's interested in gaining more strength and better physical conditoning he sure dont look like it to me.

I do not like Frank Mir at all, but that is a very solid heavyweight physique, especially for someone who weighed 20 pounds less in his last fight.
