Rosendo would beat a lot of light flys and hold his own with just about anyone. But clearly his effectiveness took a bit of a hit when he moved up.

Im not sure about his fights with Mendoza as I havent seen them..but all seem to be close considering they are splits and majority decision. But I felt Burgos deserved the nod over him from memory.

I cant see an argument for Alvarez over Gushikan for instance. His record there is really no better then a lot of shortlived titlists the divvy has seen and I think you are basing a lot of his ranking on speculation based on his form from his straweight days.

Also he only actually had two successful defenses of his title from what I can see. His fight over Burgos wasnt exactly successful and he gave up the title at the scales against Mendoza the last time around.

As for my last comment...I said he was the best fighter Ricardo fought. As in he was clearly the best fighter that Lopez faced at straw.

Chang in his prime? As previously mentioned, he had returned to the ring due to financial problems and Gonzalez was his second comeback fight. That said, his last two losses against good fighters in Kittikasem and Chitalada were closely contested affairs by most accounts so he probably wasn't as done to the extent as some may say. I won't be able to know fully until I sit down and watch the fight myself, but it's pretty hard to believe Chang could have been at the top of his game given the circumstances.

My bad, I thought you meant p4p best. That sounds about right though, Gonzalez certainly could hit and Carbajal was on the verge of being stopped in round 5 of their first fight. The first knockdown was more balance, but the second one badly hurt Michael. He did really well to survive the round, and what a fight it developed into. Brilliant stuff. Like I said, I like Gonzalez...he was all business in there. He showed a different angle to his game in the Carbajal rematches, and thought excellently to pull out the victory despite the horrendous cut. Enough can't be said about that.

By my own admission, I seem to hold Yuh in higher regard that most. I think he did have a lacking resume, and perhaps he didn't dominate everyone he ever faced, but he did beat everyone he ever faced, always triumphed in return bouts, avenging his only defeat, and setting the record for title defenses at 108 whilst demonstrating a varied skill set in the process. I have a soft spot for the little guy. Someone said he didn't really throw punches he just threw his arms out, and that's the biggest loads of bollocks I've ever heard.

Well i thought he had more than 2 title defenses, i just checked and you are right so i guess he shouldnt be there,or else you could put Lopez in there too. Did you know that Alvarez also outweighed Lopez by 5lbs in their fight at straw? Im surprised they sanctioned it as a title shot since Alvarez was 108 to Lopezs 103.
See thats what lot of people dont see about Lopez. He was actually even small for a Minimum weight and didnt grow into Jr fly to late in his career,i remember someone on his team said in an article that if they had a 100lb weight class Lopez would have won a title there too.

Lopez was a skinny *******, no doubt, but I still can't get over how someone can be that dominant in such a joke of a division and not move up earlier. Okay, Yuh dominated a fairly weak division, not fighting Carbajal and Gonzalez, and for that he is an all time great in the context of the history of his own division, but for some reason we have to talk about Lopez being a top 60 ATG? Why? He had great skills, he dominated poor fighters in general, and therefore he's a great fighter in the same vein as Myung-Woo Yuh is a great fighter or Joe Calzaghe is a great fighter. That's how I see it, at least.

Thats why i argued in other posts that Chang wasnt as washed up as people say he was,he was still a good fighter he was still at about 85 to 90% against Chiquita and he still lost convincingly. For as good as Chiquita was Lopez was definitely better than Gonzalez and I think would have handled Chang. Remember that Lopez also blew Sorjaturong out in 2 rounds.

Gonzalez would have given Lopez hell too. It's about styles for me. Lopez is best at mid range really, throwing combinations as he does, working at his own little pace. Gonzalez would have been pressuring him, and so would Chang, but I think if I was to go by what the fella's have been saying, Chang was levels above Gonzalez in terms of punch technique. That's believable because Gonzalez would often square up and throw wide lopping punches without defending himself, and only really showed the capacity to throw straight fast combinations against Carbajal. He seemed to up his game.

He would have fought Chiquita or Carbajal, but they were busy fighting each other and more well known than Lopez. So why fight Lopez for a higer risk and less reward.
Besides King had Lopez and Arum had the other 2,so buisness wise it didnt make sense for the promotors to do get together. They only did so begrudginly with Tito and Delahoya and that was only cause that was the biggest fight in boxing back then. Besides that they rarely got together to do buisness.

Why he never moved up and fought them isn't important, the fact that he didn't...is.

Why is it such a foregone conclusion for you that Lopez would have beaten all the great Light Flyweights, when he only just beat a decent-good 108 pounder in Alvarez?

Gonzalez was at his peak even before Carbajal he was a beast when he first won the title, but one thing he did learn was that he couldnt just walk thru everyone Pascua taught him that. Well I really hope that you are able to get a tape of Chang and Gonzalez, and I think your opinion will change.
With that being said i think Lopez would have dissected Chiquita and knocked him out in 8 rounds. He would decision Chang in by a close but convincing decision.

You know the old boxing cliche styles make fights (see Norton Ali or your boy Barrera and Junior Jones)? Also Alvarez was better than(decent-good) I like Alvarezs chances against any jR fly in a HTH matchup and thats including Chang,Chiquita and Carbajal.

Exactly, and I think Chang, Gonzalez, and Yuh all have the capacity to take Lopez out of his comfort zone with a high punch out.

Chang was better against Chitalada and Kittikassem than he was against Gonzalez, partly because he had shaken off some of the rust and adapted his style a bit to the shortcomings he didn't have years ago. He'd basically come off the street to fight Gonzalez. It's not as the fight was a beating or masterclass either.More of a boring comfortable routine decision win for Gonzalez.

Also, chitalada was badly weight drained and nearing the end of his own career. He wasn't as good as Gonzalez at that point. The Kittikassem fight was Chang's best comeback effort all things considered imo. That Kittikassem had improved clearly from the one that fought Carbajal.Chang for large chunks of the fight, handled him better than a peak Arbachakov did.

Wasn't Chang winning the fight handily..until he got caught in the final round?

Pascua looked awesome against Chiquita and im surprised he fizzed out right after this. The Sorjaturong fight was a war and I think was fight of the year:huh Also the Castro fights were close,no one ever talks about Castro on here he had an awesome chin he took Carbajal,Pascua and Chiquitas best shots and was only kod when he was washed up against Arce.
Chiquita also looked good against Cordoba and i think was behind early against kim before stopping him late.
