Quick question I friend told me that bears are banned in boxing is this true? If so why are they banned?
But seriously, yeah you got to be clean shaved. It's because a beard could get in someone's eye, or stubble could rub up on there face. I HATE shaving and that's the worst part about amateur boxing.
And in pro boxing you can be made to shave if your opponent complains about it before the fight. Michael Katsidis camp made Casamayor shave off his beard.
There was a court case in Canada regarding it some time ago. Fairly famous case too. Not sure where the law and rules are now with it, but this is with a quick google search... http://www.expressindia.com/news/ie/daily/20000114/isp14015.html http://www.canoe.ca/SlamBoxingInTheRing/beard.html http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2000/01/22/nagra000122.html There is a lot more info out there, but yea. Google search with a few cue words and you'll find it. "Sikh" "bearded boxer" "Canada" "Court Case" etc
they made me shave scruff one time in the amateurs.. the hair was less than an eighth of an inch long. It really depends on the ref on how strict they plan to push the rules.
Apparently some people are so hairy they are classed as bears. This is racial discrimination at its fullest. You also get compounded with death threats if you intend to open a wax clinic in certain non shaving religious countries. This hurts both business and the sporting world.
