Margarito-Mosley Revisited

I don't think the smiling said anything about his mental state. He was just getting his ass kicked and getting beaten from pillar to post. So he smiled in embarrassment, kinda. He knows he has the reputation of having a good chin, so when he got knocked down he was still smiling, like saying, "thats ok, I'm still here".
However, it is possible that someone who just got caught like that would not be 100% mentally in a fight. Don't think he has a chance vs Mosley either way though.

 

it was a mix of many things....the handwraps, the weight draining and mosley's ferocious attempt to be the first man to literally take a mans mullet off with his bare hands.....plus that body shot in the first round really did a number on margo

 

He was mentally and morally defeated once he was caught. The shame must have been huge.

dont forget that mosley was going thru a divorce...which i think motivated the living **** outta him

 

think the main reason is margo was just not as good as some of you thought. even before the mosely fight, margo has been beaten by and was losing to cotto and to clottey before eventually winning those fights. while there is no shame in this shice all three fighters were top wleterwieghts at the time, it showed you he was a limited fighter. mosley, being a better overall offenseive fighter then cotto, margo, and williams, just went out there and took advantage of a fighter who was not as taltened as he was and brutally destroyed him. remember, margo's claim to fame was that mayweather was ducking him, so he looked like a dangerous fighter because he was being avoided by the p4p no.1 fighter. but had mayweather fought and beaten him, there wouldnt have been such a buzz about him

 

I thought he'd looked nervous and out of sorts before the bell. I feel it was about not having his concrete. I think he knew he lost his advantage. Shane looked angry and threw to KO him from round one. Mosley whips his ass regardless, any day, all day!

 

Cotto made Margarito seem like an invincible monster, but Cotto fought stupid. Shane did not.

 

There are fighters that are willing to take punishment in order to dish it out. If you have a lot of confidence in your power, you may be psychologically ready to endure a lot of hard shots because you trust that you will eventually catch your opponent. Look at the abuse Marg took from Cotto in the first half.

However, if you know that your punches aren't going to have any serious effect on your opponent, it takes a lot of heart and resilience to absorb a ton of punishment with no chance of winning. That's why some guys quit on their stools if their corners aren't wise enough to throw in the towel.

I believe the way Margarito wilted against Moseley is a strong indication that he loaded his gloves in his fight with Cotto, and without the bricks, he just wasn't mentally prepared to take the abuse he was receiving with no hopes of "hitting harder" in the later rounds.

 

Cotto couldn't handle Margarito's pressure and didn't try to tie up whereas Mosley did and forced his will on him to eventually drop him and win the fight.

Mosley beat his ass up. Margarito was the same, and even if he wasn't, it's not Shane's fault.
