The contenders in this era all had mixed results due to the competition. How well had Ellis been doing when Frazier rematched him? It's just slightly coincidental that Frazier lacks a lot of big hitters on his resume!

I totally see what you're saying though and you're maybe right!

I have him no.8 and wouldnt have a problem with anyone having him slightly below that, although that goes the other way as well.

After watching the way Vitali fought the other night i think a fighter with the intestinal fortitude of Smokin Joe Frazier would cut through him like butter. and yes I would rate Frazier in the top 10 all time HW greats probably around 5 or 7.

Top 5 IMO.....he fought in an era of good heavyweights, the trilogy with Ali.

He was not big but he fought big, big motor big heart great left hook, the guy wore

peple down.I think foremans detruction of frazier makes people disrespect him,but

    styles,heart & age makes fights.

    1. Ali
    2. Louis
    3. Lewis/Foreman

    5. Holmes/Marciano

    7. Liston
    8. Tyson
    9. Frazier

Just outside the top eight. But there's a lot of subjectivity in such lists, and I could see him as high as 7.

You know what? I spent fifteen minutes on a wordy reply and realized I still didn't know what the hell point I was trying to make and deleted it all since it might not be read anyway. The thing I took away from this typing exercise is I love Frazier and he might be my favorite HW of all time but I find him incredibly hard to rate.

Hell yes Frazier was in the top eight at least. He gave Ali his first loss and put him "close to death" in the Thrilla. Yes, he was a bit undersized and his style could not make for a long career. But if you put Smokin' Joe in the place of, say, Dempsey, Louis, or Marciano he dominates just like they did. Would those guys have fought so well against a prime Ali you have to ask yourself? Perhaps not.

No one from 1965 to 1975 besides Ali or Foreman could have beaten Frazier IMO. Since this is widely regarded as the greatest era in the history of heavyweight boxing Frazier should always hold a place in the all time top ten.

 I've been there before.. usually when I've had a lack of sleep. My paragraphs just run on and on and what I want to say gets lost in confusion.
