Let's talk about the skills of John 'The Quietman' Ruiz

The most obvious thing that hits you, when you watch the Bearded Warrior, is his sublime jab. His ability to get his in first and consistently outtime his opponents is what I think led the great Lennox lewis to declare him too awkward to fight. Not that LL feared him, but he knew itd be difficult to beat him and look well.

The worst thing to try and do against Ruiz is jab; he really slips this punch well and counters with his own and clinches behind it exceptionally well. The only guys who looked good against him had little or no jab; Tua, Jones, Toney.

His next best weapon is his straight right, down the pipe; he mixes it up well and its very sneaky, reminds me of a heavyweight Hopkins in some ways.

His strength and determination are also very difficult to deal with. Noone has really been able to successfully avoid his clinching and mauling. Even at his age, I think he has enough left to maul and wear down someone like Haye.

ps, his beard his very solid as well, the Tua fight notwithstanding.

 

his best skill is to keep getting word title fights.

A tragedy for the rest of us, mind, but a great skill for him.

I quite like Ruiz, I can't wait for the Haye fight. I might even put a bit of money on him, since I expect the bookies here will pay out a worthwhile amount for him winning.

Ruiz used to have lots of skill early in his career, then he changed his style. He can punch hard and I give him a good chance to beat Haye. Haye is putting off that for for a good reason. Ruiz did much better against Valouev than Haye, by far.

 

He should be called, John 'give us a cuddle' Ruiz

His skills are jab, hold, jab, hold. He will struggle with Haye's movement and angles. If you watch the Toney fight he was constantly able to slip his shots and counter with the right hand. If Haye has the same kind of oportunities it could be a short fight.

That said there are still question marks over Hayes chin and Ruiz will get closer and cause more problems than Valuev.

Okay. Lets look at the logic behind that comment, shall we?

A man that lost, did better then the a man that won?

Right. Haye hardly got touched in his fight. It was a boring one, but a fight he won in a country that gives out crappy decisions. And I think Haye is too quick on his feet to get held onto, this Ruiz guy sounds ****, if you don't mind me saying, he will lose to Haye via a brutal knock-out. Its as simple as that.

 

Love him or hate him he has perfected one of the ugliest styles in boxing. He jerks back and forth, jabs, and then throws a righthand falling in. Its given many guys fits, even flooring the same Evander Holyfield that had gone 24 rounds with Lennox Lewis without getting dropped. He beat Johnson, Golota, Rahman Oquendo, so whatever hes doing is working.
Where he has trouble is with quick guys who use a good jab and have good boxing skills. Haye has the quickness but it will be interesting if he has enough experience to neutralize Ruiz's ugly style, which was the problem Kirk Johnson had with Ruiz.

:good I agree, Ruiz's "Style" is shite and boring but the ****er is effective no matter how much some of us don't want it to be! And despite being a Haye fan I do give Ruiz a chance in this fight. He is so awkward and he is durable (Notwithstanding Tua's demolition job on him) and damn it David's beard is not made of iron (The understatement of the month!). This is a bad fight for David, even if he wins he's probably going to look rubbish doing so. He should "Swerve" John and fight Vitali because Ruiz does have the potential to de-rail the "Haye hype train".
