Douglas was so hot and cold who knows. At his best Douglas was a really good world class heavyweight. He schooled Ollie Mcall and was winning against Tucker a 6'5 technically solid heavyweight before just giving up. Id give Douglas a good shot against Vitali. He wouldnt fight Vitali like Lewis did, it would be more of a boxing match, but Douglas had a real good jab, righthand, and counter uppercut. Good fight really hard to call a clear cut winner.
Douglas beat Tyson because he caught him on a bad night and Douglas fought the fight of his life. But in reality, had the Tyson of 1987 fought the Douglas of 1990 it would have been a 3rd round knockout win for Tyson. It was a great win for Buster though. In retrospect he did catch Mike on the right night.
I guess there was three versions, but two of the three only showed up for one fight. There was the fighter that we never saw ever before against Tyson, the overweight disinterested fighter that lost to Holyfield and the consistent top ten fighter, who never really gave it his all, but was good enough to hang around the top ten and be competitive.
A lot of those guys back then were drug fiends even going in the ring high. So I don't know why everybody talks so much about todays division! Vitali by late tko.
