*Yawn. We have this discussion time after time after time after time. These guys fought the way that everybody did in the era. They didn't benefit from modern technique and ideas. Guys like Armstrong showed enough in terms of physical and mental intangibles for us to be able to suggest that he would of adapted well enough to today's modern techniques.

Biggest fallacy about boxing- that fighters today have better training than older fighters. BS. The same training techniques I do at the gym today are the same ones used 80 years ago.
I don't know about Mosley and Leonard, it depends entirely on styles. Some might favour Armstrong over Mayweather for example due to styles. Mayweather at 147 now tries to sit in the pocket and isn't as active on his feet, and Armstrong brings strength, pressure and a huge punch volume that Floyd might have problems picking off. Likewise people might fancy him over Pacquiao, because he's durable, strong and would back Pac up and again use his strength and punch volume to perhaps outland a guy in Pacquiao who isn't all that comfortable boxing off the back foot.

There is this thing called evolution. It is in all things. Boxing has evolved. It's kind of like how martial arts evolved when Bruce Lee made Jeet Kune Do. Most boxers today are better trained, taken care of, healthier, and more knowledgeable. And we wouldn't know for certain they could do just as well now. Like people always say oh he had a 100 fights. Well they fought a shitload of garbage fighters. Unfortunately it's really difficult to compare athletes from history to today. At some point the circumstances just become too different. And if you want to start keeping proper records in a sport, start regulating more. Regulation ring size and gloves for weight classes. No negotiation. It's like how a regulation marathon has always been 42.1 km for a couple thousand years. These old boxers were great, but just in their own way. Honestly the only way to rank them is their impact on the sport and socially. Like who do you think really changed the sport, or got the people talking about that boxer.
There is a term in psychology called memory optimizing. It's very common in sports where there is no objective measurement. Everyone know that Mark Spitz wouldn't make the Olympic team today or that Jesse Owens would be beaten By Usain Bolt by a wide margin, because it is measurable. In boxing, old heros are remembered for their best, most exciting fights. Ali - Evangelista is simply forgotten when people complain about Klitschko - Johnson. In 30 years from now, Klischko - Lewis or Klitschko - Williams will be talked about and the Johnson borefest will be forgotten when the then - current HW champ will have a boring fight.
srr wouldnt stand to todays elite but is classed as the goat. it goes on records of how they fought and who they fought in the style of there generation.
We don't know, in how far these old fighters would be able to adabt to the new circumstances, it is very possible that a lot of them could. That being said,IMO it is laughable for anybody to suggest that a guy fighting LIKE SEEN IN THIS VIDEO has even a prayer against a modern superstar like Floyd or Pac.
tyson chavez and michael spinks stood in incredibly square stances....doesnt mean they were not great fighters. armstrongs workrate coupled with handspeed and hard to hit moving target. doesnt mean he was easy to box or easy to beat. def feel there are more guys around who are more technically astute, but the expereince he has to beat guys up is whats being lost these days. not enough fights to harden and to galvanise defence and offence. 20-0 fighters nowadays are guys who are looking fro title fights. it's almost comedic.
